Pundit says Man City must pay Tottenham £160m for Harry Kane

Graham Roberts has told Manchester City to pay £160m or they simply won’t sign Harry Kane this summer.

The Premier League champions have made just one bid for the England captain of around £100m, which was rejected by Daniel Levy, who values him in excess of £150m.

Tottenham want to keep their star striker despite his off the field actions having missed training in a bid to push a move to City.

Kane later came out and denied missing his return to Hotspur Way but was then left out of Spurs’ opening day victory over Pep Guardiola’s men, although his lack of a pre-season could have been the reason for his exclusion – with the 28-year-old only joining the rest of his teammates on Friday.

Reports from The Times believe that City are set to return with an improved offer, although it’s still less than Tottenham’s asking-price, which means it’ll most likely be rejected by Levy.

Several Manchester City plays have seen their names thrown into the ring as part of a possible deal to bring Kane to the Etihad Stadium.

But Roberts exclusively told Football FanCast that City simply must pay the money or look elsewhere:

“All they have to do is pay £160m, that’s it. There’s no good throwing in Sterling, Silva, Laporte, those players are on mega wages. Sterling hasn’t signed a new contract because he wants £400,000 per-week.

“Pay us what Harry Kane is worth, Pep Guardiola should stop talking about players who aren’t his. If he wants him, come up with the money, and I’m sure the club will sell him to you.

“But are you going to pay what he’s worth? He’s worth £160m, pay it.”

Kinnear drops Leeds update on Marcelo Bielsa

Angus Kinnear has dropped a major update on Marcelo Bielsa’s new contract at Leeds United, and it’s one that will have fans buzzing.

What’s the story?

Speaking on The Square Ball podcast, he said: “I think, bar the contract, we’re in great shape (heading into the 2021/22 season).

“It’ll be signed this week and announced to great excitement. It’s not even been discussed. The discussions are all around preparations, it really is a formality.

“We had a handshake probably six months ago and it really is just the details. Every day he’s talking to Victor (Orta), Andrea (Radrizzani) and myself but it’s all about preparations.”

Fans will be excited

With the Premier League season now inching ever closer to its beginning, the fact there hasn’t been any confirmation just yet about Bielsa putting pen to paper on a new deal at Elland Road might have raised some worry among fans.

The kind of affinity and love Leeds fans have for Bielsa is unquestionable, with the Argentine a firm favourite in Yorkshire for the way he has embraced the city and brought the Whites back to the big time of the Premier League.

Leeds enjoyed a superb first season back in the top-flight last term, finishing in the top ten and picking up some notable scalps along the way, not least a fantastic victory over Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad.

It’s exactly why Kinnear’s latest update that everything is virtually done and dusted, and a formal announcement is being readied, should have fans very much excited.

Meanwhile, Phil Hay has dropped an update on Leeds’ chase for Adama Traore…

Spurs: Sander Berge is shades of Dembele

Tottenham Hotspur could discover their new Mousa Dembele in this transfer window…

What’s the word?

According to French outlet Homme Du Match, Spurs have submitted a €20m (£17m) bid for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, who is being coveted from several top-flight teams, including arch-rivals Arsenal.

It’s believed that the Blades, who were relegated to the Championship last term, will reject the offer as they want to hold out for no less than €25m (£21.5m).

That figure is below the 24-cap Norwegian’s reported release clause of £35m, which decreased by £10m following United’s drop to the second tier of English football.

Shades of Dembele

In Berge, the North Londoners could find a player in the mould of their former midfield beast Dembele.

The Belgian box-to-box enforcer was renowned for being a big, strong and powerful presence in the engine room, but also one who could bring the ball forward with his technically gifted dribbling and passing attributes.

An average of 3.6 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 2.9 dribbles and one key pass per Premier League outing in 2015/16, via WhoScored, merely highlights his phenomenal ability.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-team-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

As former teammate Jermaine Jenas once described perfectly to the BBC, Dembele was “like a vacuum – he just sucks in all the pressure and then releases the ball at the perfect time.”

Despite Sheffield United’s relegation, Berge has displayed very similar characteristics – throughout his career so far, he has averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.7 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

It’s no wonder his former Blades manager Chris Wilder described the 6 foot 5 colossus as a “complete midfielder” to Norwegian newspaper VG, adding: “He can play as an 8 and as 6. He can play in different formations.”

Nuno Santo may be awash with options in central midfield, with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Dele Alli all candidates to play alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but none offer the Dembele-like exploits which are lacking in the middle.

Tottenham’s sporting director Fabio Paratici could do little wrong in bolstering such a key area, and in the £16.2m-rated powerhouse, he’d be providing the manager with an impressive box-to-box option who should thrive in his system – think Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho at Wolves.

Joe Wainman convinced Leeds United will prioritise Jens Cajuste

Joe Wainman, formerly of All Leeds TV, expects Leeds United to make a serious push for FC Midtjylland midfielder Jens Cajuste after missing out on Conor Gallagher to Crystal Palace.

Leeds were said to be keen on bringing Gallagher in on loan from Chelsea but, in the end, the 21-year-old opted for Palace.

The Yorkshire club will now have to turn their attention elsewhere and have been linked with Cajuste.

Prior to losing the race for Gallagher, SportExpressen reported that Leeds have shown concrete interest in the Sweden international.

They could face competition, though, with The Athletic claiming that Premier League rivals Newcastle United, Wolves and Palace are also interested.

Whatever the case, for Wainman, Cajuste is now likely to be a priority for Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds.

“He seems to be the next target on the list, Jens Cajuste,” Wainman told TT.

“I think we do need someone who can go box-to-box, you know, a little bit like Conor Gallagher really, to be fair. I think he would have been the ideal signature, but I think the thing with Jens Cajuste, he’s 21, Swedish international, clearly a prospect.

“I think the figures, I think it’s around 15 million I’m seeing that he could move on for, so I think he would be a great signing.”

Described as an “all-action” midfielder who has flair to his game by Leeds Live, it looks like the Whites have stumbled across a gem in the 21-year-old.

After watching Gallagher go to Palace, Bielsa will surely be desperate to get this one over the line.

Rangers dealt blow in Santos Borre pursuit

Glasgow Rangers have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to bring Rafa Santos Borre to Ibrox this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by German publication Bild (via Sport Witness), who claim that Eintracht Frankfurt are in discussions regarding a four-year deal for the out of contract Club Atletico River Plate centre-forward, with the Bundesliga side hoping to land the 25-year-old as the outgoing Andre Silva’s replacement.

The report goes on to state that Rangers and Lazio are also keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Colombia international ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window, however, with Eintracht appearing to now be closing in on a deal, both sides are running out of time to make the striker an offer.

Fans should be livid

Considering just how impressive Santos Borre was for River Plate last season, should the £15.3m-rated man go on to join Frankfurt on a free transfer before Rangers have even made the player an offer, fans of the club should be livid.

Indeed, over his 13 Liga Profesional appearances for Marcelo Gallardo’s side last term, the forward scored eight goals, registered one assist and created three big chances for his teammates, as well taking an average of 1.8 shots and making 0.9 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £11k-per-week hitman earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.08, ranking him as River Plate’s joint eighth-best performer in the top flight of Argentinian football.

As such, with Steven Gerrard hoping to build a side in the summer transfer window that is capable of progressing past the group stages of the Champions League, as well as retaining their Scottish Premiership crown, the addition of the man Diego Simeone dubbed “phenomenal” would have appeared to provide Gers with a huge boost of going on to achieve these feats next season.

However, as Bild suggest, it seems as if Gerrard must act quickly for the 25-year-old, or else he risks missing out on the chance to land potentially one of the most exciting players available on a free transfer this summer.

If Rangers allow the player to simply join Frankfurt without ever making him an offer, fans of the Glasgow giants would have every right to be upset with their club for acting so slowly in the market.

Gold shares ‘terrific’ Skipp news for Spurs

Writing on Twitter in reply to Tottenham Hotspur training footage, reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold has dropped some ‘terrific news’ on midfield sensation Oliver Skipp.

The Lowdown: Skipp showing promise…

The England under-21 international enjoyed a brilliant 2020/21 season on loan at Norwich City in the Championship, where he started 44 matches under Daniel Farke (WhoScored). He also made the second-most tackles per game (2.2)  and joint-third most interceptions (1.1) out of the entire Canaries squad, proving himself a solid enforcer in front of the back four (WhoScored).

However, the promising 20-year-old suffered a metatarsal fracture at the back end of the campaign which required surgery (tottenhamhotspur.com), with Gold now sharing an update in response to the club’s Hotspur Way footage.

The Latest: Gold drops ‘terrific’ Skipp update

Sharing some ‘terrific news’ on social media, Gold has claimed that Skipp should be back in full training next week after a video emerged of him back on the training pitches at Tottenham.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-4/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, while he is not currently fully fit, the midfielder’s speedy recovery could spell good news for Spurs as he aims to get back up to speed quickly under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Gold also believes that the 20-year-old has a ‘big season ahead’ in store, with it being hard to argue against that assessment based on the player’s potential.

The Verdict: Big boost for Spurs…

Former Lilywhites manager Jose Mourinho best summed up Skipp’s quality while he was still at the helm in north London, branding the youngster ‘phenomenal’ and a ‘future captain’. The praise is noteworthy as Mourinho is not averse to criticising young talents in public.

The homegrown starlet has been tipped to play a big role for Spurs during the upcoming season and could provide real solidarity alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the defensive midfield position.

Having him back fully fit in time for the 2021/22 campaign should  come as a big boost for Nuno, and many Spurs fans will likely be eager to see him return to full training next week.

Possible NUFC takeover completion date

A source from Newcastle United has dropped some promising insight on the parties involved in the potential takeover at St. James’ Park.

The Lowdown: Arbitration date set

The arbitration case between the North East club and the Premier League has been set for July, with the results of it likely to give a much clearer picture over the direction of where the proposed deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group is heading.

However, with the opening of the summer transfer window and the start of the new season on the horizon around the same time, it would be ideal for the Tyneside club to know their fate as soon as possible so they can go into it as best prepared as they can.

The Latest: Newcastle source drops insight

As per Football Insider, a Magpies source has shared that all parties involved in the bid are still committed and that there is growing hope that it will be concluded by the end of July, a very promising timeline indeed.

The Toon are privately confident that the top flight will approve the takeover after the arbitration hearing takes place, suggesting that they think that the results will go in their favour.

The Verdict: Promising for potential takeover

The voices coming out of NUFC are certainly promising with regards to the potential revival of the takeover.

However, a lot will hinge on the results of the arbitration proceedings, which despite Newcastle’s confidence, can go either way.

The Magpies will be hoping that whatever the result, they will know their fate before the new season kicks off, so that they can plan ahead with regards to player recruitment among other targets.

Nonetheless, the fact that all of the parties involved in the deal are still committed is a good sign, and if all goes well in arbitration, it is possible that the Toon Army could well see a takeover of their beloved club by the end of July.
