Chandimal returns; Asalanka to lead Sri Lanka in T20I series against India

Uncapped 21-year-old allrounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe has earned a call-up for the series

Charith Asalanka is the new captain of the Sri Lanka men’s T20I team. The news was confirmed when Sri Lanka Cricket announced the 16-man squad to face India in a three-match series starting July 27.Asalanka, who takes over from Wanindu Hasaranga after the latter had stepped down from the role earlier this month following a six-month stint, is no stranger to captaincy, though. He had led Sri Lanka in two T20Is on the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year when Hasaranga, the captain at the time, was serving a suspension. He has also captained the Sri Lanka Under-19s and, most recently, led Jaffna Kings to the LPL title, after having taken over the reins from Thisara Perera at the start of the season. The other big news is the return of the 34-year-old Dinesh Chandimal to Sri Lanka’s T20I fold. He last played a T20I back in early 2022, but his form in the LPL this year, where he struck 287 runs across eight matches at a strike rate of 168.82 – far above his career strike rate of 123.03 – opening the innings, made a strong case for his inclusion. But with one stalwart entering another made way, with Angelo Mathews, now 37, left out of the squad despite also having had a good time in the LPL.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Included is another surprise inclusion, the uncapped Chamindu Wickramasinghe. The 21-year-old allrounder from Kandy, who has been putting in time at the MRF Pace Academy in India, caught the eye of selectors following a breakout LPL campaign this past month. A right-arm seamer who can also bat, he showed great maturity for his Dambulla Sixers franchise lower down the order, picking up seven wickets across eight games while also scoring 186 runs at a strike rate 131.91 – including two clutch fifties. His rise is all the more remarkable seeing that he went unsold during the LPL auction, but was signed by the Dambulla franchise after their forced ownership change had offered up the opportunity to bring in unsigned players. There are also returns for Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando and Binura Fernando, but this means there’s no room for Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dilshan Madushanka.Madushanka’s omission might be the most surprising of the lot, but it’s also the position in which Sri Lanka now have the most depth. While his 21 wickets at the 2023 ODI World Cup might still be relatively fresh in the memory, he didn’t play a single game at this year’s T20 World Cup, and he picked up just two wickets over six games for the Dambulla Sixers in the LPL.Replacing Madushanka in the squad is Binura Fernando, largely on the back of an excellent LPL outing. The 29-year-old left-arm quick has been in the Sri Lankan system for quite some time now – he made his debut back in 2015 – but consistency eluded him, primarily down to a poor injury record. This year, though, has been a watershed moment, as an unencumbered Binura took the LPL by storm, his clever variations helping him pick up 13 wickets across eight games at a miserly economic rate of 6.81. Equally, he put his body to the test, ending the season having played four games across five days.Binura Fernando picked up 13 wickets from eight matches in LPL 2024•Getty Images

Two others staking their claims on the back of a solid LPL season are Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando. The former, like Wickramasinghe, found his way to the Dambulla franchise belatedly having initially gone unsold in the auction, which itself followed a surprise exclusion from Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad. But Perera grabbed this fresh opportunity with both hands, crashing 296 runs across eight games at a strike rate of 169.14 – this included two fifties and a maiden T20 century, all at the top of the order. As for Avishka, after the disappointment of missing out on the T20 World Cup amid healthy competition in the top two spots, he made the No. 4 role his own to help Jaffna Kings to the title. Across 10 LPL innings he struck 374 runs at a strike rate of 162.60, including five fifty-plus scores. He ended the season as the third-highest run-scorer, and might have even topped the charts had he got an opportunity to bat in the final. The rest of the side comes through as expected, with Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage and Wanindu Hasaranga completing a strong batting line-up.Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana and Wellalage will be the primary spin-bowling options with support from the ambidextrous Kamindu if needed. The seam-bowling contingent shows good variety with two slingers in Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana, Binura’s left-arm seam and Dushmantha Chameera’s right-arm pace, while Shanaka and Wickramasinghe can also roll their arm over when called upon.Sri Lanka squad for T20I series vs IndiaCharith Asalanka (capt), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Janith Perera (wk), Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando

Same agent as Bijol: Leeds now targeting move to sign "confident" left-back

With Jaka Bijol signed and delivered, the 49ers have now reportedly turned their attention towards a fresh Leeds United move to sign a Bundesliga left-back.

Jaka Bijol "ready for the Premier League"

Welcoming their second signing of the summer for around £19m, Leeds officially unveiled Bijol earlier this week. The defender arrived from Udinese, signing a contract until 2023, and will be hoping to make an instant impact on Daniel Farke’s side as they return to the Premier League in August.

After putting pen to paper, Bijol told the club’s official website: “This is a big day for me, for my family and I’m happy to be here. Maybe the biggest one of my career so far, but I’m ready for it.

“I work for it and that’s why I’m here, because it’s a big challenge for everyone. It’s a big challenge for me, for the club, and we’re getting ready for it together. I think the club and myself are ready for the Premier League.

“I can promise that I will give everything, that I will give everything in every training as well to be ready for the first game of the season and then just go from there.”

Nmecha upgrade: Leeds make contact to sign a star who "bullied" Van Dijk

Leeds are reportedly eyeing up a star who would come in as an immediate upgrade on Lukas Nmecha.

1 ByDan Emery Jun 25, 2025

Even after Bijol and Lukas Nmecha, the 49ers have still reportedly got plenty of business planned. Names such as Nikola Krstovic have found themselves in the headlines as of late and reports have even gone as far as to suggest that Leeds have now got an agreement in place to sign the Serie A forward.

Meanwhile, those at Elland Road have now reportedly turned their focus towards a Bundesliga left-back who could replace the departing Junior Firpo this summer.

Leeds now targeting Lukas Ullrich

According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, the 49ers and Leeds are now targeting a summer swoop to sign Lukas Ullrich from Borussia Monchengladbach. The left-back has been part of Germany’s side at the U21 Euros this summer and has seemingly impressed enough to find himself on the Whites’ radar.

Whilst those at Elland Road face reported competition for Ullrich’s signature from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, the fact that the German is represented by the same agency as Bijol may hand Leeds an advantage in personal negotiations.

Lukas Ullrich chases Bayern Munich's Michael Olise.

Ullrich is certainly a talent worth the battle too following a breakout season in the Bundesliga which earned the praise of Gladbach boss Geraldo Seoane, who told reporters: “You can see that he’s got pace going forward and that he has a very good mentality. He’s confident, he’s active and he makes runs in behind. He brings a lot to the table playing as an attacking left-back”

Whilst the numbers show that Ullrich still has a way to go before he reaches Firpo’s level, Leeds would be investing in a 21-year-old whose potential is undeniable.

Pundit convinced England international wants Tottenham move with decision soon

Tottenham Hotspur’s pull in the transfer market, not to mention the finances available for crucial signings, have undoubtedly been boosted by their spot in the Champions League for next season, with chairman Daniel Levy and the Lilywhites recruitment team set for a very intriguing summer window.

Ange Postecoglou vows better Premier League finish for Spurs

Spurs confirmed their place in Europe’s most prestigious competition by reigning triumphant in the Europa League final last week, an historic night for both the club and under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham hold negotiations over signing 6 foot 5 defender in last few days

Domestically, Spurs finished one place outside the relegation zone in 17th, breaking their all-time record for most Premier League defeats in a single campaign, and this has resulted in a major dilemma for Levy when it comes to deciding Postecoglou’s long-term future.

Their Europa League triumph represents a significant milestone for the north Londoners, who ended their 17-year wait for silverware and secured their first European trophy since 1984, with Postecoglou highly suggesting that he wants to stay at Tottenham during their trophy parade last week.

The final call on that won’t rest with the Australian, though, who also vowed to put Spurs in a much stronger position domestically if he’s given the chance next term.

“From my perspective, I made decisions that I felt were giving us the best chance of achieving the goal we needed to achieve this year and that has affected our league form,” said Postecoglou after Tottenham’s 4-1 loss to Brighton on the final day.

“If people don’t want to take that into account, then there is nothing I can say to explain it any better than that.

“I came to the club and we had finished eighth. I didn’t take over a club that had finished second. They had no European football to speak of. Lost the one player who probably guarantees you European football. That was my starting point. At the end of two years, I’ve got the club a trophy it has been crying out for, Champions League football, we finished fifth last year. Either people are saying ‘last year it was a huge anomaly for us to finish fifth or this is what we deliver right.’

“I have got no doubt next year we will be in a much stronger position, challenging for the top places.”

If Postecoglou does stay for 2025/2026, there is little denying he needs to be backed in the transfer market with Tottenham’s newly-found Champions League riches this summer.

Pundit convinced Angel Gomes wants to join Tottenham

Injuries left Postecoglou hamstrung at various points over the course of 24/25, emphasising the need for Spurs to strengthen across the board.

Their greater pull could also help them to land Europe’s most coveted free agents, like England international midfielder Angel Gomes, who is set to leave Lille when his contract expires on June 30.

Tottenham have been tipped as one of the favourites to sign Gomes on a free this summer, with pundit John Wenham telling Tottenham News that he’s convinced the 24-year-old would jump at the chance to join Postecoglou’s side.

“Tottenham are going to be playing in the Champions League next season,” Wenham said.

England'sAngelGomesin action

“Therefore, when it comes to the pecking order of options Gomes has, I’m sure that Tottenham would be near the top of the list if they were to make an offer.

“I’m sure Gomes wants to come to Tottenham and live in London and play Champions League football with the current Europa League holders. As a result, I’m sure a decision will be made on that soon.”

The former Man United gem has impressed in Ligue 1 since his switch there in 2020, so much so that he was awarded his first call-ups to the Three Lions squad late last year.

He could be an astute option to reinforce Tottenham’s midfield, which was left desperately short at points last season and crippled their chances of success.

Barca plotting to sign "tremendous" Leeds ace; agent has already held talks

Even after earning promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United could be about to lose one of Daniel Farke’s star men amid reports that Barcelona are now plotting a summer swoop for his signature.

Leeds celebrate title success

Whilst Leeds had reason to celebrate with or without the Championship title after earning automatic promotion, silverware simply added the cherry on top of what was a season full of moments to savour.

The open-top bus parade was for those who could not celebrate promotion in the 2019/20 campaign, and it more than made up for lost time as those in Yorkshire partied through the night.

Daniel Farke spoke about the pride that he has in his side after eventually coming out on top in the Championship, telling reporters: “I felt empty at the final whistle. I was too tired to celebrate. Even at half-time, it was complicated because I wanted to give the right message. I am proud to have achieved what we wanted to.

“Looking forward to being on the coach home and to close my eyes. I have to be ready again to celebrate this evening. Next week will be celebrating. I need the summer to recharge my energy.”

Agent aware: Leeds now serious about signing Ligue 1's best shot-stopper

He could replace Meslier.

ByTom Cunningham May 10, 2025

At some point, of course, the celebrations will come to an end, and that’s when the focus may well shift towards what is a crucial summer transfer window for all involved at Elland Road. Leeds must get things right if they are to stay up, and it looks as though the 49ers are willing to spend the money to do exactly that.

Whilst reports have centred around potential incomings, Leeds could yet lose one of Farke’s most experienced players when the summer transfer window arrives.

Barcelona plotting Junior Firpo move

According to transfer reporter Graeme Bailey, Barcelona are now plotting a summer swoop to sign Junior Firpo, who is currently on course to leave Leeds as a free agent at the end of June. Yet to sign a new contract, the defender’s agent has now reportedly held talks with a number of suitors, which may have included Barcelona.

Reporting on Firpo’s future, Bailey told Leeds United News: “He’s been speaking to numerous clubs, Spain is close to his heart. There appears to be a preference, I do know he’s had a lot more interest in recent weeks. Which is not a surprise, given his performances.

“There has been some interest in England, Everton, with Angus Kinnear and Nick Hammond. It’s down to Firpo, I am told he inching towards Spain. Barcelona have even looked at him as a no.2, Betis are there as well. It does sound like he’s heading back to Spain; his people have had a lot of talks.”

Hailed for his “tremendous” performances this past term, Firpo could now be about to take his talents to one of the biggest clubs that European football has to offer.

Birmingham eyeing free deal to sign "fantastic" Championship contract rebel

With promotion and League One title glory well within their grasp, Birmingham City have now reportedly turned their focus towards securing a bargain deal to sign a defensive addition this summer.

Birmingham strolling towards promotion

With games in hand on second place Wrexham, Birmingham sit clear at the top of League One and look unlikely to ease their hold on the top of the tree anytime soon. With just a handful of games left to play, the Blues are also on course to secure early promotion above third place Wycombe and could even seal their Championship spot as early as April 18 when they square off against the struggling Crawley Town.

Left delighted with his side’s most recent victory against Barnsley, watching on as they soared to a 6-2 win, manager Chris Davies told reporters: “It was a big three points. To score six goals at home and win 6-2 is a wonderful day for us.

“I thought were good throughout, we had to be patient when they went down to ten men but to score six in front of the home fans is brilliant. Against ten men, it’s a mental game. You can think it’s going to be easy, but it doesn’t work like that.

“To get a sucker punch after we score, with a long throw, that frustration can build so it was really important for me at half-time that I calmed the players down and made them see the game quite clearly and what we needed to do, the positions we needed to get into and how to attack them relentlessly. If we did that, we would score the goals to win the match and we did.”

That victory only strengthened their stride towards promotion and securing an early place should only benefit Birmingham as they go in pursuit of one particular summer bargain.

Birmingham plotting bargain Harry Darling deal

According ton Wales Online, Birmingham are now plotting a move to sign Harry Darling on a free deal once his current contract comes to an end at Swansea City this summer. The defender does reportedly have an offer on the table from the Championship side but is yet to put pen to paper on an extension – opening the door for his exit in the coming months.

That said, the Blues aren’t the only side reportedly interested, with Premier League hopefuls Sheffield United also linked to the Swansea contract rebel as the summer transfer window approaches.

The interest in the 25-year-old centre-back should come as no surprise either. Former Swansea manager Luke Williams is just one of few to praise Darling in recent months, telling reporters following a hard-fought draw against West Bromwich Albion in January: “Harry was outstanding, and it is impossible to question his commitment to the football club because that an heroic performance from him.

“He is fantastic at defending the goal, competing for everything with the opposition. But he also had plenty of brilliant actions in helping us to build-up to try and score. He was brilliant, he’s an excellent player.”

Men’s tournament

Match 29, Trent Rockets (Wins 5) vs Welsh Fire (Wins 0):
Trent Rockets have the best chance to strengthen their case for direct qualification to the final, alongside sealing their berth in the play-offs. They face Welsh Fire in their last league game, a team that has lost all seven matches. A win in this fixture will make Rockets the first team to qualify for the play-offs this season, but their place in the final depends on net run rate (NRR). Rockets are about five runs ahead of London Spirit’s NRR, the only other team who can finish on 12 points.Rockets would then hope Spirit either lose to Birmingham Phoenix or the winning margin be no more than five runs better than their victory margin against Welsh Fire. Rockets can still seal their play-offs qualification even if they lose against Welsh Fire, if their losing margin is no more than 48 runs (In a 150-run chase) or 31 balls to spare. If Rockets lose by a heavier margin, they will need to root for Spirit to win against Phoenix or lose by a narrow margin on Tuesday.Match 30, London Spirit (Wins 5) vs Birmingham Phoenix (Wins 4):
A 79-run defeat against Manchester Originals has left Birmingham Phoenix on the brink of elimination. However, they still have an outside chance of making it to the play-offs. They will need a big win in their last league match against London Spirit – by 42 runs or 28 balls to spare approximately. Any win margin less than that would end their road in the tournament unless Rockets lose by more than 48 runs to Welsh Fire on Monday, which would be an unlikely result. While Phoenix aim for a huge win to qualify for the play-offs, Spirit will be making their calculations to get a direct place in the final. If Rockets lose against Fire, a win would be enough for Spirit to make it to Lord’s. However, if Rockets win on Monday, Spirit will need a winning margin against Phoenix that is about six runs higher than Rockets’ win margin.Match 32, Manchester Originals (Wins 4) vs Oval Invincibles (Wins 4):
The final league game of the season between Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles will be a virtual play-off to finish in the top three. The winning team gets closer to the title, while the losing team gets knocked out. If Rockets and Spirit lose their respective final league matches, the winning team among Originals and Invincibles will likely qualify directly for the final based on their better NRR.Birmingham Phoenix were on the brink of qualification before defeat to Manchester Originals•Getty Images

Women’s tournament

Southern Brave or Oval Invincibles – Battle for top spot:
Southern Brave, despite winning all the five matches they played, not yet assured of a direct route to the final. A win over Northern Superchargers in their last game would guarantee top spot, but they can achieve this despite a loss if second-placed Oval Invincibles do not win big in their final league match against Manchester Originals. If Brave lose to Superchargers by ten runs (in a 125-run chase), Invincibles should not win by more than 11 runs or six balls (in the case of a first-innings total of 125).Birmingham Phoenix – Wins 3, Points 6:
Birmingham Phoenix were a win away from securing their top three finish, but an 18-run loss against Manchester Originals on Sunday left the table open. They now face threats from Trent Rockets, Originals and Superchargers, all tied on four points. If Phoenix can defeat London Spirit in their last league game, they will bin all the scenarios and join Brave and Invincibles in the play-offs. If Rockets win by 12 or more runs, or with ten or more balls to spare (assuming a first-innings total of 125) against Welsh Fire, they will put Phoenix in a position where they cannot afford to lose in their last match.Rockets, Originals and Superchargers – What are their chances?
Trent Rockets are more likely to finish in the top three than Originals and Superchargers, due to their better NRR. However, all three teams would need Phoenix to lose against Spirit on Tuesday. The margin of Phoenix’s defeat will not matter for Rockets if they get the better of Welsh Fire by 12 runs or ten balls. But Originals and Superchargers will need big wins for qualification as they are currently 33 and 42 runs behind the Phoenix’s NRR.

Sourav Ganguly and other Bengal stars recall how they outsmarted Delhi to win the Ranji Tropy in 1989-90

Shamya Dasgupta07-Mar-2020Bengal won their first Ranji Trophy title in 1938-39, well before India’s independence. It then took them over 50 years to get their hands on the trophy again, in 1989-90. Bengal have reached the final thrice since that win, but no cigar. From Monday they will wrestle with Saurashtra on their home turf in Rajkot. But Bengal remain confident. Keeping their spirits up is their mentor-cum-coach Arun Lal – ‘Banglar Lal’, they called him, the darling of Bengal – who was one of the stars of that 1989-90 win.ESPNcricinfo spoke with Lal and his team-mates, who recounted that title-winning run of almost three decades ago against a star-studded Delhi at the Eden Gardens.

****

The TaskSambaran Banerjee, captain and wicketkeeper”Many of them had just come back from New Zealand, they were outstanding cricketers. But we were playing at Eden Gardens, and we felt we could beat anyone. I said that at the team meeting too, that we had a good chance because we were playing at home. We had that belief. But belief isn’t enough, it’s not like punching another person, we had to play good cricket.”There were ego issues within the team, of course. But when we were on the field, we didn’t care. We had to win. I managed to drill that in. Not everyone liked me, I also had problems with others, but we managed to pull in the same direction. The day before the game, I stopped training and brought PK Banerjee [former India football captain and coach] to speak to the players, and motivate them. He used war analogies. That made a difference. It was almost like for seven hours we were at war.”Snehasish Ganguly”We felt that about Eden Gardens, that it was an ego thing, we couldn’t let someone come and beat us at Eden Gardens. It was our space. It was a matter of self-respect. It wasn’t acceptable to us.”The MoodAshok Malhotra”I used to travel by metro those days, so people would come up in the morning and say, ” (you have to win, you have to win). I told Arun, they have almost an Indian XI, how will we win? He said, ‘We will, we will try our guts out and see’. And we did. But I still say the crowd won it, not us. We were so charged up when we saw the crowd. I don’t know – 50,000-60,000 people. I had never seen that in India. We fielded like tigers, and we got them out. The bowlers bowled so well, they bowled their hearts out. Saradindu got someone run out, which was unbelievable, because he wasn’t a good fielder. Raja Venkat took a blinder at forward short-leg. It was unbelievable.”The best moment of my cricket career, more than being part of the team that won the World Championship in Australia.

“I used to travel by metro those days, so people would come up in the morning and say, ” (you have to win, you have to win). I told Arun, they have almost an Indian XI, how will we win?”ASHOK MALHOTRA

“That match, Delhi had 11 people and we had 50,000. Believe me, we didn’t win that final, the crowd did, they just intimidated Delhi and they lost.”The MatchUtpal Chatterjee”Eden Gardens those days was a pacer’s paradise. The large galleries [concrete stands] had already come up, but there was always something for the fast bowlers in the first hour and then in the evening, mainly because of the breeze from the river [Ganges]. This time, it was also very cloudy. It rained so much. So we knew the fast bowlers would do well.”Sambaran Banerjee”Dattatreya was magnificent. Rajib Seth too. Sourav didn’t bowl [he bowled six wicketless overs], and we had our most senior bowler, Sagarmoy Sen Sharma, in the reserves. We had a good pace attack. We always did. But because there were so much rain, we had to keep going off. That helped us, because Dattatreya and Rajib Seth could bowl more overs than usual. And Utpal and Saradindu [Mukherjee] were magnificent, they kept things tight when they came on.”Arun Lal”We were rank outsiders, not expected to beat six-seven-eight India players. When Delhi got out for under 300, I remember telling one of their players, ‘Boss, Krishan bhi tumko nahin bacha sakte hain. (Even Lord Krishna can’t save you now). Even if he is riding your chariot, you can’t win.’ We were expecting 500. They had everyone. All of them I knew, they were my juniors [Lal started his first-class career in Delhi]. And then we went ahead and did it.” in terms of winning. But it wasn’t outright. Two innings weren’t complete, and Bengal in fact scored fewer runs than Delhi. Those were the days of ‘quotient’. In case of matches where there was no clear leader after the first-innings exchanges, a team’s runs were divided by the number of wickets lost. Whoever had a better number won. In the final that year, only 164.2 overs of play was possible at Eden Gardens because of rain. Delhi’s 278 gave them a quotient of 27.8. Bengal ended on 216 for 4 – a quotient of 54.

“I was 17 and I was making my debut in the final. I think the first two balls hit my bat, instead of me hitting the ball. Then I hit some [five] fours.”SOURAV GANGULY

Arun Lal”We knew the rules, we knew we just had to stay there, not lose wickets. We lost two wickets early [20 for 2], and then I stayed there but we lost Sourav and Ashok too. But Raja Venkat and I managed to bat on. We had the rain delays and the rest day, but we just decided to bat on. If runs came good, if they didn’t, okay, we just didn’t want to get out.”

Sourav Ganguly takes a breather•Getty ImagesGanguly in, Ganguly outSnehasish Ganguly”It was a huge setback. I don’t know the reason even now. Maybe it was a team combination thing – Sourav was a bowler too, and I don’t regret it; I was replaced by Bengal’s best player. Raj Singh criticised the CAB. My father told me that he had shouted at someone saying, ‘How can you drop someone when he might play for India?'”Snehasish never played for India, while Sourav went on to become, well, Sourav.Sourav Ganguly”I was 17 [‘he didn’t even have a proper moustache,’ Sambaran remembers], and I was making my debut in the final. It was already a massive moment. And then… it was very special. I was a bit out of place initially. I think the first two balls hit my bat, instead of me hitting the ball. Then I hit some [five] fours. I was nervous, but I managed.”I came into a winning team, and that definitely shaped me. Ashok Malhotra, Arun Lal, Utpal Chatterjee, Snehasish… I used to watch them train, and I was playing with them. Sambaran Banerjee told me the evening before the game that I would play. It was like a fairy tale.”The after-partyArun Lal”Receptions, every day. It was huge! God, , there were felicitations for a month. Even on the ground that day, I had to go around high-fiving the crowd. There must have been 25,000 people, throwing Holi colours. Shouting, singing, crying… Those days they had that beautiful gold Charminar trophy for the Man of the Match. Silver ones for semis and quarters. I had the gold Charminar. It was a beautiful thing. It was a beautiful moment.”Ashok Malhotra”Arun and I are married to Bengalis, so we are like the (sons-in-law). Arun was already settled in Calcutta. I was still moving back and forth from Delhi. But after that, I was accepted. That day, after we won, everyone in the crowd, and even outside, started calling me . I would be lying if I said that that was the moment I wanted to make Calcutta my home, but I think it mattered. I had never felt such love in Haryana or Delhi.”

Twins' Byron Buxton Lays Out Clear Message for Other Teams Amid Trade Rumors

With the Minnesota Twins entering the All-Star break at 47-49 and in second place in the AL Central, there's reason to believe they'll decide against trying to contend for a title this season and instead look to trade away some pieces at the month's end.

One player who would certainly draw plenty of interest from teams across the league is superstar center fielder Byron Buxton, who is making his second All-Star appearance Tuesday night. Buxton issued a hands-off warning to teams that may be looking to inquire about his availability, however, kindly reminding everyone that he has a no-trade clause in his contract and he'd be more than willing to block any potential trades.

"I can't be traded. I gotta no-trade clause. I'm a Minnesota Twin for the rest of my life. So that's the best feeling in the world, knowing I get to walk into a clubhouse and it's going to say ‘Twins’ for the rest of my life," Buxton said while addressing the media at Monday's Home Run Derby.

Buxton made clear he doesn't pay any mind to the rumors that may come up involving his future in Minnesota, because as far as he's concerned, that's where his future will be.

Buxton, 31, is under contract through the 2028 season and is making $15.14 million per year. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in 2029, though he's made clear that he wants to remain with the Twins for the remainder of his career.

Aaron Judge's Monstrous Homer in ALDS Game 3 Had MLB Fans on Their Feet

If there was ever a time for Aaron Judge to have a big at-bat, it was Tuesday night, with the Yankees facing elimination in Game 3 of the AL division series vs. the series-leading Blue Jays. And he did just that, with one huge swing.

With the Yanks down by three in the bottom of the fourth, Judge smashed a three-run homer off the left-field foul pole—his first dinger of the postseason—to tie the score 6–6 and give New York an actual fighting chance of winning the contest and living to see another game. Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a solo home run in the fifth and New York tacked on two more, eventually winning 9–6 to pull within 2–1 in the series.

Fans immediately went ballistic after Judge’s homer, as the Yankees watching in the dugout threw up their hands in joy.
