White still a doubt – Hussain to bat at four

Craig White has been described as

CricInfo16-May-2001Craig White has been described as “doubtful” by the England management team prior to the First Test against Pakistan tomorrow.White had a scan on his back yesterday which did not rule him out, but continued stiffness in the area is still inhibiting the Yorkshire all-rounder.He will undergo a fitness test today before a final decision is made.

Nasser Hussain also confirmed that he will bat at number four in this game, providing Michael Vaughan with an opportunity to move up to three in the order. The move won the approval of team-mate Graham Thorpe.”Nasser’s made the right decision to drop down the England order because it was becoming obvious to those close to him that he was struggling to handle the burden of batting at three and captaining the side,” Thorpe told cricket4.com.”Nasser needs to give himself a break from the incessant pressure that has been building up over the past 12 months and going in at four, with Michael Vaughan ahead of him and me at five will help him.”At the moment as soon as he steps off the field he has to whip the pads on and start concentrating on batting.”In Sri Lanka he was bouncing off the walls with the pressure of leading England and it was impossible for him to get his mind set on batting.”Thorpe also revealed that it was Hussain’s century at Kandy that enabled the England captain to move down the order without fear of it being interpreted as a sign of weakness.”He first spoke to me about it after the Kandy Test match in Sri Lanka when he scored that brilliant hundred against Murali and Co,” continued Thorpe.”Up until that point he had been saying it was a sign of weakness to drop down the order, but it’s as if with that century he had proved to everyone, and himself that he was still capable of scoring runs for his country.”After that match he looked back to his old self and you could tell in his face that he felt he had showed everyone he could captain England superbly at the same time as score a century in a Test match.”He’s not the kind of person that you can tell to take their foot off the gas but I knew he was aware that the situation was taking a lot out of him.”It then came as no surprise when he rang me a few weeks ago to say he was going to do things differently this summer. He is an emotional character and you can tell he is thinking all the time about what is best for the team, but in doing so he has been unable to concentrate fully on the job of batting,”

Howey reveals shocking Joelinton admission

Joelinton is not a £40 million player, that much is obvious to anyone that’s seen him play. Former Magpies defender Steve Howey has been discussing rumours with Football FanCast that the club were offered him for just £20 million before they threw a club-record fee at Hoffenheim.

Despite his failures in front of goal since he arrived on Tyneside in 2019, Steve Bruce has always persisted with Joelinton having handed him 69 appearances in the Premier League over two seasons which has yielded a return of just six goals.

If it wasn’t for Callum Wilson’s 12 goals and the arrival of Joe Willock with eight goals, the Magpies would have had a lot more nervous end to the season and that comes down to them getting recruitment spot on, something that didn’t happen in 2019.

It will baffle Newcastle fans that the club turned down their current number nine for half the price they ended up paying, but that is what may have happened as Howey exclusively told Football FanCast:

“You have to look into that deal and think, who did that deal and why was it that much? Surely someone must have looked at him and realised that he’s not worth that much.

“You hear rumours that he was offered to Newcastle for £20 million but they turned it down before they went and paid £40 million for him the following summer.”

Lee Charnley has previously admitted that the club had agreed a deal to sign Joelinton earlier in 2019 but they could not proceed with the deal because former manager, Rafa Benitez, did not want to sign the player, something which proved smart.

There have been reports suggesting that Bruce will not be able to sign players for anything close to what Joelinton cost as Mike Ashley is set to hand the manager an embarrassing transfer budget of just £10 million for this upcoming transfer window.

West Ham fans react to Fabianski award

As shared by the club, Lukasz Fabianski has clinched the LFA Goalkeeper of the Year award as many West Ham United supporters share their delight at the news.

Fabianski has been a mainstay under manager David Moyes this season and has put in some impressive performances, with the Irons even rewarding him with a new contract earlier this campaign.

The Poland international, who signed from Swansea City back in 2018, has gone on to make 96 appearances for West Ham in all competitions and has made the joint-second most starts out of the entire team this season (WhoScored).

The London Football Awards saw fit to acknowledge his performances over 2020/2021 with the goalkeeper of the year honour as Hammers supporters flocked to herald this news.

As well as Fabianski, manager David Moyes also got honoured with his own award in coach of the year.

Fry makes huge claim about Klopp

Barry Fry has told Football FanCast that Liverpool must back Jurgen Klopp this summer or risk losing him.

The Reds have endured a terrible season and are in a fight to finish in the top four, instead of trying to defend the Premier League title that they won last term.

Indeed, they drew three games last season and lost three, though, after their clash with Newcastle United they had drawn nine and lost nine this season.

Liverpool have struggled with various injury woes, particularly defensively, as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have both missed vast swathes of the season.

With the summer transfer window coming up, Fry has told FFC that the ownership of the club must give Klopp the funds needed to bring his squad up to scratch.

He believes that it is a test of the ownership’s ambition, and if their desires do not align with Klopp’s, Fry believes the German could well walk away.

He said: “He likes winning things, he likes his players to play the style that they play, which is exciting, attack-minded, which suits the fans, but you’ve got to have the players to do that.

“It’ll be interesting to see where he goes, who he wants this year, out of his recruitment. It’ll much depend on what his budget is, obviously, that will really tell us whether Liverpool, as a football club, are as ambitious as their manager is.

“And if they’re not, he might not be there.”

Bull doesn’t want Wolves to sign Ronaldo

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Steve Bull, who scored 306 goals for Wolves during his career, has claimed that his former club doesn’t want players like Cristiano Ronaldo to sign.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Wolves, with his agent Jorge Mendes helping a number of his clients join the club since they won promotion back to the Premier League.

The £491,000 per week striker would join eight other Portuguese players currently on the books at Wolves, and he has been rumoured to have wanted out at Juventus since they were knocked out of the Champions League by Porto.

Speaking on how Ronaldo would be a good move but also why Wolves don’t need someone like him, Bull told FFC:

“I can’t see why he would want to come to Wolves unless it’s a publicity stunt and he’s short of money.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/exclusive-andreas-sondergaard-wolves-premier-league” title=”Exclusive! Andreas Sondergaard talks all things Wolves”]

“If the rumour happens then it’ll be good for the club because it’ll be a massive PR buzz around the club, but we also don’t want that because we want players to come in and play for the club and stay.”

Wolves’ last big money signing was Fabio Silva from Porto when they paid £36 million for the 18-year old wh0 has scored just twice this season.

Since moving to Juventus Ronaldo has continued to showcase his goalscoring ability having found the net 75 times across three Serie A seasons.

West Ham fans wowed by Edouard claim

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are in pole position to sign Celtic star Odsonne Edouard and have made progress behind the scenes in recent days – with many Hammers erupting over this news and the fact they could allegedly land him for just £8 million.

Edouard, who has bagged 20 goals in all competitions for the Hoops this season, has enjoyed a prolific few seasons north of the border – totalling a whopping 57 goals in 100 SPFL appearances (Transfermarkt).

He has also assisted his teammates on 25 occasions in that time, seemingly prompting GSB to take note as West Ham reportedly lay the groundwork to sign him ahead of the summer window.

It is claimed that West Ham wish to reach an agreement ahead of summer transfer window in what could be a really clever piece of business if all goes to plan, resulting in plenty of Hammers fans erupting in response to this ‘class’ rumour – as one supporter called it.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Wilder comments

Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to Chris Wilder’s latest comments about the club before they face off against Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

According to @SUFClive, via @villareport, Wilder was speaking in his press conference and said of Villa: “Brilliant club, fabulous supporters. I went to watch them against Derby, was late and got caught up entering with Villa fans. I think they are a brilliant club, they are huge and I think only people in football realise how big they are.”

The two clubs are in rather different positions in the Premier League, with the Blades looking very likely for relegation as they sit bottom of the division (SofaScore), whilst Villa are battling for a top half position and are only six points off fourth place.

The comments from Wilder show much potential the Midlands club has and it was a huge moment for them to survive in the top flight on the last day in 2019/20 as they are now coming on leaps and bounds. If Dean Smith’s side were to beat Sheffield United, it puts them in a strong position as they have games in hand on the teams above them.

Naturally, many Villa fans were appreciative of Wilder’s comments, which led one supporter to call him a “true gentleman”.

Here is how Villa fans reacted to the comments:

West Ham fans blast Danny Mills claim

Speaking to talkSPORT, pundit Danny Mills has claimed that the top four in England shouldn’t all be rewarded with European Cup qualification – going to say that they’ve expanded it for ‘the sake of expansion’ and West Ham potentially finishing fourth is ‘not Champions League’.

David Moyes’ men have enjoyed a remarkable campaign to date in the Premier League, with the Hammers potentially finishing in a Champions League place looking like a real possibility given the standings.

Currently sitting fifth with a game in hand and just two points behind Chelsea, the prospect of European football appears very concrete provided West Ham can continue to keep pace.

Mills, however, believes that the top four teams in the country shouldn’t all gain Champions League qualification – mentioning West Ham as an example.

“The Champions League is supposed to be the best of the best,” explained Mills to talkSPORT.

“I don’t even think it should be the top four in the country that go through, it’s the Champions League, maybe the top two.

“That’s what people want to see, let’s say West Ham get in the Champions League as fourth spot, that’s not Champions League.”

Flocking to this claim, many Hammers had their say – with one Iron calling it ’embarrassing’ as others have their say.

West Ham fans flock to Mills message

“What a ridiculous thing to say….if West Ham finish 4th that’s because they have been the 4th best team in the country over 38 games. How are clubs meant to progress and compete with the best if they are not given that opportunity?!”
