West Ham fans hail Pedro Obiang as midfielder leaves club

[ad_pod ]

On Wednesday, club insider ExWHUemployee said that West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang was in Italy ahead of a move to Sassuolo.

The 27-year-old has made 116 appearances for the Hammers since arriving from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015.

West Ham later confirmed that the midfielder has officially departed, posting a good luck message on both their official website and Twitter account.

The club insider also said that Obiang has wanted to leave West Ham for the last 18 months, but did not ‘make a fuss’ when he was told that would not be possible.

The London club’s fans have been on social media reacting to the Twitter post.

And the majority have lavished praise on Obiang for his conduct.

The midfielder actually made 29 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side last term, but was seemingly surplus to requirements moving forward.

And if the reaction on social media is anything to go by, Obiang leaves with a solid reputation in tact.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the West Ham fans can be seen below:

West Ham fans react as Maxi Gomez’s Uruguay are knocked out of the Copa America

[ad_pod ]

A number of West Ham United fans have been discussing the future of Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez after the striker saw his Uruguay team crash out of the Copa America in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Gomez did not actually play a single minute for Uruguay at the Copa America.

Indeed, he did not feature in any of their three group games against Ecuador, Japan and Chile, and he was also not included in the quarter-final clash with Peru.

Uruguay’s exit means that things could well start moving forward in regards to Gomez’s future, though, with the 22-year-old a summer transfer target for West Ham.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers are able to secure a deal for the striker in this summer’s transfer window.

However, the London club’s fans believe that they will soon have an answer either way – a selection of the Twitter reaction is available to view below:

Celtic’s Lewis Morgan could benefit from Mikey Johnston injury blow

[ad_pod ]

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston will not feature in next week’s UEFA Champions League qualifying clash against FK Sarajevo, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

What’s the story?

The 20 year-old, who scored the Hoops’ opening goal against the Bosnian champions on Tuesday night, had to be substituted off after picking up a knock, and Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed he won’t feature in the second leg.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “Boli Bolingoli should be okay for Wednesday but Mikey Johnston will just miss out.”

It will now leave Lennon with something of a selection headache given Johnston was one of their most effective performers away from home, but he does have a number of options to fill in for the youngster.

Lewis Morgan’s big chance?

To date, Lewis Morgan has made just one start for Celtic and that came back in October when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge.

That was all he could manage during his half-season at the club before moving on loan to Sunderland in January.

However, he’s been part of Lennon’s pre-season plans and was the player that came off the bench for Johnston on Tuesday night, ahead of established star Scott Sinclair.

An effective presence on both flanks during his 25 minute cameo, he was the player who provided the assist for the team’s third goal of the night in the 3-1 victory.

With Johnston confirmed to miss next week’s return leg, it could be a rare chance for the 22-year-old to start a game and impress his manager.

If he can dazzle in front of the home support then it’ll surely significantly boost his chances of more regular action in the months to come.

Quina and Quintero respond to Chalobah’s Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Nathaniel Chalobah has had a rocky season with Watford.

Despite his team reaching well above expectations in the Premier League, the 24-year-old English midfielder blew hot and cold throughout the campaign, having struggled with injuries so much over the last couple of seasons.

Injuries, fitness problems and performance issues chained him either to the stands or the bench as he only managed to accumulate nine appearances throughout the year, and his name went missing from the scoresheets altogether.

Still, Chalobah is enjoying his holiday with some of his fellow colleagues and friends, namely Josimar Quintero, a Chelsea youth product, and Domingos Quina, Chalobah’s teammate at Watford.

If his Instagram snap is anything go by, Chalobah and co. are having immense fun before the start of the new season, and both of the players replied to the image.

Quina just posted a series of heart emojis while Quintero did the same and emphasised how funny the depicted situation was.

Chalobah has been a part of Watford’s squad since 2017 when he joined from Chelsea. In 61 appearances so far, he managed five goals.

Go elsewhere: Sheffield United fans don’t want Assombalonga

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield United fans on Twitter have given their verdict on the potential signing of Britt Assombalonga from Middlesbrough.

The Congolese striker has been linked to a move to Bramall Lane since the Yorkshire club’s promotion to the Premier League was confirmed, but the fanbase don’t want to see him put on a red and white shirt.

According to a recent report from The Star, the club now value him significantly lower than the £15m Boro paid for him in 2017.

The Blades have been in the market for a new striker, with a multitude of players already linked to the club, including Oliver McBurnie and Neal Maupay.

Assombalonga has been a prolific Championship hitman for years now, but fans of the Steel City outfit aren’t convinced that he would do a good job in the Premier League.

The Yorkshire club’s current strike partnership of Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick has been fantastic over the past 12 months, and fans aren’t happy about the prospect of the 26-year-old taking either of their places.

One fan claimed the attacker is only worth five or six million at most, while another alluded to his inability to maintain full fitness as a legitimate cause for concern.

Here’s what the Bramall Lane faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Farewell legend: Man City fans pay tribute to the departing Vincent Kompany

[ad_pod ]

Manchester City fans on Twitter have paid tribute to Vincent Kompany after it was revealed that the defender would be leaving the club after 11 years of service.

The Citizens signed the Belgian from Hamburg for around £10m back in 2008, and what a signing he has turned out to be.

Relive all the drama of Man City v Spurs through the eyes Spurs’ fans in the video below…

Kompany won four Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium, playing a crucial role in each successful campaign. The 33-year-old also won two FA Cups, the League Cup on four occasions, and the Community Shield twice.

He will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, and even when it looked like his powers were fading, an unbelievable strike in his last home game against Leicester was crucial in retaining the title.

Kompany will now take on a player-manager role at his former club Anderlecht, and the City fans on Twitter have certainly been hit hard by the news…

The Chalkboard: Welbeck is the perfect signing to help Wolves thrive in Europe

[ad_pod ]

Going into what could be a rigorous 2019/20 campaign for Wolves they will need more depth. It’s something that’s no secret, especially given some of the tired performances we saw from them following their FA Cup semi-final defeat.

Although Nuno Santo’s men were then able to rally, there were some individual performances that hadn’t reached the levels we saw earlier in the season.

Next term, the Midlands club will have the Europa League to deal with and as a result they’ll need a bigger squad, particularly if they come through the qualifying rounds.

At the moment they’re particularly thin on the ground for quality in the attacking third of the pitch and reinforcements will be needed.

On the chalkboard

Last weekend, The Evening Standard reported that Wolves had an interest in Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck. The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and therefore available on a free transfer.

If they were to continue to pursue the England international it would be a smart signing for a club like Wolves.

And given his performances in the Europa League this season, he could help them thrive on the continental stage.

Welbeck’s displays are never too convincing but he’s a big game player, something Wolves aren’t lacking. Before suffering a horrific broken ankle against Sporting Lisbon he was in very promising form.

Playing mainly as a striker in Europe throughout the early parts of 2018/19, he averaged 2.5 shots per game. That’s a record this season only bettered by Raul Jimenez from a Wolves perspective who had 2.9 shots per match in the Premier League.

As such, he could be the perfect player to help share the workload from an attacking point of view.

Welbeck is a phenomenally hard worker and his two goals in the four games he played in the competition before injury showed he’s more than capable of providing able back-up. He’d also perfectly fit the counter-attacking style Wolves play with.

We’ve found Raul Jimenez’s No. 1 fan and… it’s a little scary. Check out the video below to see for yourself…

Capped 42 times by England, he started the season by scoring five goals in his first ten matches in all competitions.

Wolves fans may need convincing that he’s the right option but should contact be made with the attacker, there would be few better options to help tackle the task of the Europa League.

Liverpool fans can’t stop laughing at Rio Ferdinand comments

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to Manchester United’s exit from the Champions League, and they’re taking particular pleasure from some recent comments made by Rio Ferdinand.

Manchester United were comfortably beaten by Barcelona on Tuesday night, meaning the Red Devils will now definitely finish the season without silverware.

The Catalan giants took the lead early at the Camp Nou and never looked like surrendering it.

Lionel Messi’s brace – one of which was a fabulous goal while the other was a goalkeeping catastrophe from David De Gea – effectively ended the match in the first half before Philippe Coutinho scored a vintage effort from outside the box to make it 3-0.

Has Alisson been Liverpool’s most important signing of the season? Check out the video below to find out why Jurgen Klopp thinks so…

And Ferdinand, who was working as a pundit on BT Sport during the match, will certainly be regretting some comments he made on the programme back when United looked resurgent under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking on BT Sport before Solskjaer was offered the permanent position, Ferdinand said: “Get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it let him put whatever numbers he wants to put on there.

“Let him sign the contract and go. Ole’s at the wheel, he’s doing it, he’s doing his thing, Man United are back!”

Needless to say, arch-rivals Liverpool are enjoying the meltdown as their old foes have now lost five of their last seven games in all competitions.

Leroy Sane shows signs for Germany he can move out of Raheem Sterling’s shadow

[ad_pod ]

Raheem Sterling this, Raheem Sterling that. The media’s most-wanted-individual-turned-media-darling is hogging all of the headlines right now, and rightly so in fairness.

Seven goals in his last four games, including hat-tricks against Watford and the Czech Republic, the Manchester City forward is at the top of his game, showing world-class ability in the process.

However, one man who plays alongside him at club level, but doesn’t get near enough media coverage for his exquisite ability, is Leroy Sane.

442oons have charted the entire career of Man City’s main man Sergio Aguero through song in the hilarious video below…

The German international appears to be trusted less by Pep Guardiola, having made just 18 league starts compared to Sterling’s 24 – even then, Sane has still managed to score eight goals and record nine assists.

At international level, during a time where Joachim Low has been notably ruthless since his side’s World Cup embarrassment in dropping names such as Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, Sane has stepped up to the plate.

His performance against the Netherlands on Sunday evening was one to behold, and showed that, even despite suffering racist abuse from his nation’s own supporters, he can be trusted by his coaches to fulfil his duties to an exceptional standard.

The former Schalke winger netted Germany’s opening goal against the Dutch with an excellent effort inside the far post, his strike being one of two shots from a total three that managed to hit the target.

Sane impressed throughout against stellar names such as Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt in the opposition defence, and managed to complete an eye-catching three dribbles, which drew a whopping five fouls from the Dutch players.

Much of the focus has rightly been on his City counterpart Sterling, but Sane’s excellent performance for his country could well be the catalyst for him stepping out from the Englishman’s shadow in the closing weeks of the season.
