Tottenham fans hope Christian Eriksen never plays for the club again

Tottenham came back with a bang against Red Star Belgrade as they romped to a 5-0 victory, and did so without Christian Eriksen, who is considered one of their most creative outlets.

The Denmark international was left on the bench as he is still recovering from a dead leg he picked up on international duty, but considering his downturn in form, and the possibility that he will leave soon, many Spurs fans are happy that he didn’t come on.

It turned out that they didn’t need him, either, with the front three of Harry Kane, Erik Lamela and Son Heung-min combining well throughout on Tuesday.

As a result, some supporters would be pleased if Eriksen never played for the club again, and would likely be glad to see to back of him when he does eventually depart, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

It is a big decline for a player who was once a pivotal member of the squad, but his one goal and one assist in 11 games shows he is no longer performing at his highest level for Spurs, so it may be best for both parties – and the fans – that he moves on.

Here are some of the reactions to Eriksen’s absence and the wishes for him to never play for the club again.

Charlton fans heap praise on Tom Lockyer after 1-0 win over Leeds

[ad_pod ]Some Charlton fans have taken to Twitter to pile the praise on Tom Lockyer, following an impressive 1-0 win over Leeds. The Addicks got back to winning ways at The Valley thanks to what looked like a goal from the six-cap Wales international, although it was Macauley Bonne who got the last touch as Lee Bowyer’s men defeated Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion hopefuls.Lockyer’s defensive stats against Leeds were exquisite in what was a real shift from the 24-year-old – he recorded two tackles and two interceptions, while also making seven clearances as he helped the south Londoners to a clean sheet. His performance certainly didn’t go unnoticed by some Charlton fans on Twitter.

One fan below called Lockyer an “unsung hero”, while another supporter said that the former Bristol Rovers man – who made 284 appearances for the club – was “probably” their favourite signing of what was a busy summer.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…

Leeds’ predicted XI to face Barnsley as Helder Costa comes in

[ad_pod ]

A number of Leeds players were on international duty over the last two weeks as the Championship took a back seat for a small period.

The Whites suffered defeat in their final outing before the break commenced as they lost 1-0 to Swansea.

Creating 21 opportunities, they failed to score and then succumbed to a rather sloppy goal late on.

As a result, Marcelo Bielsa’s men will have to be much-improved if they have desires of jumping from third in the table.

But how could they line-up on Sunday afternoon at Oakwell?

Bielsa hasn’t favoured changes this season and at times he’s even disclosed his team before his side have set foot at the ground.

It was a strange tactic from the Argentine who before a game with Wigan said he wouldn’t name his XI but then did.

Who plays this weekend remains to be seen but we’re tipping the 64-year-old to make just the solitary change against the Reds.

That comes at left wing where a poor performance from Jack Harrison last time out could see Helder Costa earn his first league start after arriving on loan in the summer.

Harrison managed to complete just 76% of his passes whilst he only registered one dribble and was dispossessed four times according to WhoScored.

There should also be a place for Ezgjan Alioski who earned an assist for North Macedonia last week and the 27-year-old has been in good form, not dipping below a match rating of 7 in his last three outings.

Barry Douglas was fit against Swansea but wasn’t preferred from the off and was on the bench.

Eddie Nketiah is likely to have to settle for a place among the substitutes once more as Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas all start.

The former earned a new deal at the beginning of the week whilst Cooper and Dallas also signed new terms.

Real Madrid should forget about signing Paul Pogba

And just when it seemed that the storm is starting to die down just a little bit, something happens to set the whole situation ablaze once again. Paul Pogba has been one of Real Madrid’s not so secret wishes for the entirety of this summer.

Not only that but the saga of Pogba’s potential departure from Manchester United and his jump to the Galacticos’ embrace has now truly become a story of old; something that we’re already getting used to hearing, and it is less of a surprise every time we do.

But once the transfer window in the Premier League closed shut with Pogba still very much a Red Devil and Ed Woodward without any real big-name signings to compensate for that potential departure of the Frenchman, the story pretty much seemed finished. And now, there just might be an additional chapter there to be explored.

Pogba’s brother, Mathias, recently talked to the Madrid media, discussing how his brother might fit Real Madrid’s setup. Whether those comments could indicate something more solid than just words remains to be seen but they have coincided with claims the Frenchman is the only midfielder Zidane is interested in bringing in this summer.

Chasing Pogba at this stage, however, would not really be a good move for Perez and co.

Ever since Zidane returned back to take over the team once again, they have experienced mixed results. After a disastrous pre-season and a rather weak finish to the 2018/19 campaign, the first couple of bouts in the 2019/20 season saw some slight improvements.

Granted, this Real Madrid is still very much plagued by the same problems of old but the team, apart from their obvious fitness and injury-related setbacks, seems to be ticking rather well.

And one thing that seems somewhat resolved is the turmoil in the locker room. At least that’s how it looks like from the surface and what the club is giving to the public so far. Of course, when we say turmoil, it refers to the squabbles within the squad, particularly between Zidane and his beloved Gareth Bale.

A similar thing could also be said for Pogba but there have been certain situations before that sparked some tension. Do Real Madrid actually need another potential “rebel” in the ranks?

This mentality issue can arguably be solved with the right leadership and would potentially disappear altogether if Pogba felt good about the transfer and his surroundings but those things cannot really be guaranteed right from the bat.

Looking strictly from a sporting point of view, however, things also get a little more complicated. While Pogba is a great asset offensively and offers a lot of creativity in his area with 13 goals and nine assists in the Premier League last season, he also lacks the defensive prowess Real Madrid’s midfielders need in order for the team to function as stably as possible.

Taking a note from last season’s stats – just 1.3 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per game – it might become a bit clearer as to why one would assume that, especially compared to some of the top players in the Premier League who offer a similar output offensively but also do a fair share of the defensive work. The likes of Tanguy Ndombele (2.4 tackles, 1.5 interceptions) or Bernardo Silva (1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions) are similarly creative and yet offer more off the ball.

Granted, at this point it would be a stretch to assume Pogba would absolutely not accept such duties if he was to be purchased by Real Madrid but just by purely looking at his past ventures with Manchester United, it seems at the very least that he’s not best suited to them. The Frenchman is simply better used when allowed to participate in the attacking spectres of the game.

While it is fairly understandable that some players simply excel at different things and one could say defending is not one of Pogba’s biggest strengths, this still comes down to Real Madrid’s choosing of the right target. Real Madrid conceded 46 times in La Liga last season – more goals than 13th-placed Leganes – so should they really be looking to throw an offensive player into the engine room?

Pogba not being a perfect defensive player is fine but should he then be chased in a transfer that could potentially cost a lot of money, given his estimated value of £90m and his reputation? With the transfer window about to close, the best thing Real Madrid can do is move on from the French powerhouse and consider alternative targets for when January comes around.

Rangers fans react as Steven Gerrard names strong starting XI for Midtjylland tie

Steven Gerrard has named his Rangers starting XI for the crunch tie with FC Midtjylland, and the fans are very excited indeed.

The Gers go into tonight’s game at Ibrox with a healthy 4-2 lead over the Danes, but Gerrard isn’t taking any chances with his side. Alfredo Morelos is preferred up top to Jermain Defoe, who netted a hat-trick at the weekend.

Jon Flanagan is back again after impressing the Gers fans in last week’s victory in Denmark, while the rest of the side has a familiar look to it.

Check out Keith from C’mon the Hoops’ fascinating video on the origins of the Old Firm derby below…

The Gers know that should they get through tonight’s match then they’ll face Legia Warsaw of Poland. The poles got past Greek side Atromitos last night to set up a mouth-watering potential tie with the 54-time Scottish league winners.

The fans are loving the full-strength side, although some would’ve liked Joe Aribo and Jordan Jones to get a start after their impressive beginnings to life at Ibrox.

Here’s what the fans had to say on Twitter about the side:

Tottenham fans react as Victor Wanyama is linked with loan exit

[ad_pod ]

According to Fotomac, via Sport Witness, Fenerbahce are nearing a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Indeed, the report claims that the Turkish giants are closing in on a move for the Kenya international, who is set to spend the 2019-20 campaign in Istanbul.

Wanyama, who has also recently been linked with a move to West Ham United, only made 13 Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season.

The arrival of Tanguy Ndombele could potentially push the midfielder further down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Spurs fans have been on social media offering their views on the transfer report.

And it would be fair that there are mixed opinions – some would be happy to see the back of Wanyama, but others are not too keen on him leaving ahead of the new season.

Leeds United re-sign Jack Clarke on loan

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United confirmed their fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday, as winger Jack Clarke rejoined them on a season-long loan having completed a permanent move to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

In a quick turnaround, the Yorkshire outfit confirmed that the 18-year-old had joined Spurs for an undisclosed fee, before announcing almost instantly that he would be re-signing for the 2019/20 campaign with the club looking to achieve promotion back to the top flight.

The report on Leedsunited.com added that the teenager will return to training with Marcelo Bielsa’s men with immediate effect.

Clarke made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Whites last season in what was his breakthrough year, with five of those coming from the starting XI under the leadership of the Argentine boss.

The youngster will be battling the likes of Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and Pablo Hernandez for a spot in the side next term, with another wide man in Helder Costa also rumoured to be on his way from Wolves.

He is the club’s fourth summer signing following the additions of Harrison, Ben White and Liam McCarron on Monday.
