Indignados, dirigentes do Botafogo cobram punição exemplar a juiz

WAPDA complete facile win against Sialkot

A round-up of the third day of the opening round of matches in Division 1 of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

Hammad Azam’s efforts with bat and ball kept National Bank of Pakistan in the running on day three•Getty Images

Water and Power Development Authority completed a thumping innings and 151-run victory against Sialkot at the Jinnah Stadium with a day to spare.Ali Azmat and Ahmed Said, who had stalled Sialkot’s surge with a doughty resistance on the second day, continued their effort well into the third morning. Azmat, who was on 112 overnight, progressed to 130, while Said crossed triple-figures as well, and remained unbeaten when the innings was declared closed at 429 for 8.Trailing by a mammoth 303, Sialkot’s second innings was only marginally better than their first. Sarfraz Ahmed wreaked havoc with a five-wicket haul, while Naved-ul-Hasan and Umaid Asif chipped in with two apiece to derail Sialkot, who were shot out for 152.Habib Bank Limited’s bowlers put their side on course for victory by stumps on the third day, after their batsmen piled on the advantage to finish with a mammoth first-innings lead of 361 against Faisalabad at the Iqbal Stadium. Ahmed Shehzad, unbeaten on 207 overnight, powered along to 254, but Salim Elahi was unable to drive home the advantage as HBL lost three wickets in quick succession following the marathon 371-run association. Their captain Hasan Raza, however, ensured that his side maintained full control, with a quick 69, inclusive of three fours and three sixes, before declaring the innings closed at 533 for 7.Farrukh Shehzad settled into a defensive mode as Faisalabad fought to save the game, accumulating an unbeaten 46 in his near three-hour stay, but HBL made regular breaches from the other end. Qaiser Iqbal departed early, before spinners Danish Kaneria and Mohammad Aslam snared two more wickets to leave Faisalabad 248 runs in arrears with only seven wickets to survive the final day.Islamabad held a slight upper hand against National Bank of Pakistan at the end of the third day’s play at the Diamond Club Ground. Beginning the day at 201 for 5 – 151 short of Islamabad’s first innings effort – NBP’s lower order was unable to make a reasonable dent in the deficit. Nasrullah Khan and Shehzad Azam finished with four wickets each, while Hammad Azam held one end up for with his 61, but NBP still fell 63 runs short of the lead.Hammad was at it again with the ball, snaring two early wickets in Islamabad’s second innings. Mohammad Talha then got into the act, and at 52 for 3, NBP had a strong chance of running through the middle order. Ameer Khan and Ali Sarfraz, however, scuppered their hopes with a crucial 96-run stand to build the lead. Talha struck late in the day, removing both batsmen to give his side an opening, but unless NBP can strike early on the final day, this will be Islamabad’s game to lose.Rawalpindi’s lower order authored a stirring fightback to neutralize Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited’s advantage from the first two days, and leave the game interestingly poised going into the final day at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Resuming at a wobbly 117 for 4 – still three runs short of wiping the first-innings deficit – Rawalpindi were propelled by weighty contributions from Nos. 6, 7 and 8, Babar Naeem, Zahid Mansoor and Adnan Mufti, into a position of strength.Naeem began the resistance along with opener Shoaib Nasir who went on to make 73, before Mansoor took centre-stage. He struck 19 fours and a six in his attractive innings, and added 116 with Mufti, who made 65 off 98 balls. Mohammad Khalil dismissed Mufti to complete his five-wicket haul, but there was no respite for ZTBL who ran into a determined No. 11 in Sadaf Hussain. He played out 101 minutes and 55 balls, helping Mansoor add 65 runs, and take the overall lead to 296. ZTBL have a tricky final day ahead of them, and Rawalpindi will fancy their chances of setting a 300-plus target and pushing for a win.Multan’s lower order failed to capitalise on the strong foundation laid by their top half, and conceded a 72-run first-innings advantage, before their bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza’s seven-wicket haul, redressed the balance to leave the match against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines delicately balanced at the Multan Cricket Stadium.Resuming their first innings at 226 for 5, Multan ran into a rut as they lost their last five wickets for the addition of only 40 runs. Kashif Naved, unbeaten on 44 overnight, did the bulk of the scoring on the third day but fell six short of a well-deserved hundred. Adil Raza and Yasir Shah were the pick of the bowlers, picking four wickets each as Multan were bowled out for 286.Ahmed Raza got into the act thereafter, continuing from his six-wicket haul in the first innings as SNGPL floundered against his wiles once again. Barring Usman Arshad and Yasir Shah, no one managed to cross 30 as they were bowled out, two short of 200, setting Multan a target of 271. There was to be one final twist in the day’s play, as opener Babar Ali fell to Asad Ali in the three overs of play remaining in the day. With 269 runs to get and nine wickets standing, it is anybody’s game going into day five.

Newcastle’s Krafth under fire vs West Ham

Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth has been criticised by journalists after giving away the free-kick that led to West Ham United’s opener in their Premier League clash.

The lowdown

With just over half an hour gone in the Saturday lunchtime clash at the London Stadium, Michail Antonio cut inside from the left flank and was ‘wiped out’ by Krafth, starting at right-back in the absence of Kieran Trippier.

Krafth was shown a yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh, his third booking of the campaign.

And from Aaron Cresswell’s resulting delivery, Craig Dawson headed West Ham in front.

The latest

The Athletic’s George Caulkin tweeted that Krafth’s foul was ‘daft’ and ‘blatant’, undoing a ‘bright start’ from the visitors.

Newcastle World’s Liam Kennedy, meanwhile, called the Swede’s challenge ‘needless’.

And BBC Sport’s Neil Johnston wrote in his live text commentary that it was a ‘careless’ moment.

The verdict

Krafth really ought to have been more wary of the set-piece threat West Ham pose.

Prior to kick-off, Hammers had scored nine goals from those situations in 2021/22, a tally bettered only by Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea (incidentally, the league’s top three).

And more generally, it was an unconvincing performance from the right-back.

He won only two of the five duels he contested (40%) and misplaced seven of his 28 passes, leaving him with an accuracy of just 75%. That number was particularly bad in the first half, failing with five of 11 passes.

Indeed, his SofaScore rating of 6.4/10 was the lowest in Eddie Howe’s side.

Liverpool backed to sign Bellingham

Liverpool are more likely to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham than Manchester City this summer, according to Bundesliga journalist Sebastien Kolsberger.

The Lowdown: Bellingham a special talent

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most prodigious players in the world, excelling for Dortmund and also winning 12 caps for England already, with Jordan Henderson drooling over his ability during the most recent international break.

Bellingham has caught the eye with his brilliance in the middle of the park, performing with a maturity beyond his years and being hailed as ‘fantastic’ by the Reds skipper.

The teenager has been linked with an exciting move to Liverpool in the past, and a fresh claim from the German press sounds positive in that respect.

The Latest: Journalist makes big claim

Speaking to Bernabeu Digital [via Sport Witness], Kolsberger claimed that the Reds are favourites to sign Bellingham over City, due to his personality fitting in better with Jurgen Klopp’s team:

“Jude is one of the future stars of the midfield, and all clubs want him. I think after a few years in Germany, he will return to England. Liverpool and Manchester City also want to sign him.

“But Jude is a very emotional player, which is why I think Liverpool have a better chance of signing him.”

The Verdict: Perfect summer signing

In many ways, Bellingham should be the absolute number one transfer target for Liverpool this summer, should Dortmund make him available. He ticks every box when it comes to potentially excelling in this Reds side.

At 18, he has the world at his feet and would come in as a long-term acquisition and he is already good enough to play week in, week out, scoring three times and registering seven assists in the Bundesliga this season.

Midfield is also the key area that Liverpool could do with adding to in the summer and Bellingham’s ability to play as either a deep-lying player or more of a No.8 would enhance Klopp’s options, especially as some of his current crop are now in their 30s.

If Liverpool get a deal done, they could be signing a genuine game-changer – someone who could be a mainstay for club and country for the next ten to 15 years.

Everton: Kenny’s transfer prediction

The ‘brilliant appointment’ of Frank Lampard can lure in ‘mega transfers’ at Everton after the signings of Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek.

That’s according to former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who was speaking to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Dele and Van de Beek arrived at Goodison Park on the final day of the transfer window, the same day that Lampard was announced as Rafael Benitez’s successor.

The former has been named in the PFA Team of the Year on two occasions – 2015/16 and 2016-17 – and twice landed the Young Player of the Year award.

The latter, meanwhile, was a key part of the Ajax side that was only seconds away from reaching the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League final. He started all but one game on their route to the semis and bagged goals against Juventus and Spurs.

The latest

Kenny says the ‘brilliant’ news of Lampard’s arrival is comparable to that of his former England team-mate Steven Gerrard, who was able to bring Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona to Aston Villa last month.

He reckons that Dele may have turned down Everton were it not for his presence in the dugout, and expects more coups in the coming transfer windows.

“It’s the Lampard pulling power,” he told FI.

“It’s just like Gerrard at Aston Villa and him signing Coutinho. Players like Lampard had such amazing careers and they have that pull.

“He’s a brilliant appointment and I would be surprised if Alli had gone to Everton without Lampard.

“With Van de Beek I’m not sure, there were talks last summer so maybe he was more interested in the club as a whole.

“Alli must have had loads of offers but Everton have the money to pay whatever Spurs want over the next few years and their manager was one of the best midfielders we have ever seen.

“I think we will see more mega transfers like that if Lampard stays at Everton.”

The verdict

Everton reaped the rewards of their manager’s status when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge last season.

Ancelotti, a three-time Champions League winner and two-time World Coach of the Year, was instrumental in bringing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid to Goodison Park.

And now, under Lampard, Everton could have a similar edge in the market, so who might his next blockbuster signing be?

Well, perhaps it could be Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller. According to Bild’s Christian Falk, The Blues are already hopeful of snapping up the 32-year-old as he approaches the last year of his contract with the Bundesliga giants, with some reports even claiming Lampard is personally leading the pursuit.

Muller, valued at £22.5million by Transfermarkt, has won a whopping 30 major trophies during his career, including the 2014 World Cup, and will certainly know plenty about Lampard given he scored twice in the game of the Toffees boss’ infamous non-goal against Die Mannschaft.

Injured Umar Gul doubtful for Asia Cup

Umar Gul is unlikely to be part of Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign in Sri Lanka as a result of a lingering shoulder injury

Umar Gul is unlikely to be part of Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign in Sri Lanka as a result of a lingering shoulder injury. He should, however, be fit in time for the tour to England later this summer. Gul injured his right shoulder when he fell awkwardly during a training camp for the World Twenty20 and subsequently missed the tournament.Though the shoulder has gotten better, doctors have advised him not to risk it so soon and instead aim to be back for the longer, arguably more important England tour later, where Pakistan meet Australia as well. “I had an MRI done on it a few days back and compared to the first one I had immediately after the injury, the shoulder has 80-90% healed,” Gul told Cricinfo.”But the doctor has advised me not to take a chance at the Asia Cup because I might aggravate a healing injury,” he said. “I have been resting completely since the injury and haven’t bowled, so getting match fit and then bowling will take some time to get back to my full sharpness.”The Asia Cup is due to begin from June 15 in Dambulla. The PCB have announced a list of 35 probables for the two assignments of the summer in which Gul’s name has been included. A short training camp will be held in Karachi in the first week of June after which a 15-man squad will be announced for the Asia Cup. Gul might still be a part of the training camp so he can start working with the team trainer David Dwyer and the team’s physiotherapist again.”I am trying to find out whether it is ok for me to attend the camp because I can at least start training with David and other members of the fitness team,” Gul said.Though his form has dipped in the last year, Gul remains a key part of Pakistan’s pace attack in all three formats of the game. He remains at his most lethal in the shorter forms of the game, but it was his comeback on the England tour in 2006 that sparked the most productive phase of his Test career. And in a summer where Pakistan will be heavily reliant on their pace attack, Gul’s presence and experience will be vital alongside Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif.Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s new Test captain, knows how important it is for Gul to be right in time for a tour which takes in six Tests, five ODIs and four T20Is. “Gul is one of our key players and we want him to get fit as soon as possible,” Afridi told the . “It’s unfortunate that he is unlikely to play in the Asia Cup but I’m sure that he will be fully fit for the tour of England. I’ve told him that he should take his time to recover from the injury because we want him to be fully fit for the matches against Australia and England.”The England tour begins on June 28.

Wolves must land Ousmane Dembele transfer

Now that Wolves look set to say goodbye to winger Adama Traore with an initial loan move to Barcelona this month followed by a potential permanent deal being on the table for the Spaniard in the summer, this could pave the way for the Midlands club to spend the remainder of the January transfer window trying to secure a suitable replacement for the 26-year-old.

In terms of who they could look to bring in to fill the void left by Traore’s imminent absence, one figure that has been mentioned with a move to Molineux in recent weeks that may not be too difficult for the Old Gold to secure is Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

With Barcelona apparently telling the Frenchman that he must sign a new deal at the club this month or else he’ll have to leave, which has then led to Dembele saying in a public statement that he won’t give in to blackmail, Wolves could step in and work out a deal that would suit all parties and bring the 24-year-old to England and draw a line under his time in Spain.

Labelled as an “exceptional” player by Dani Alves, the winger has proven throughout his career what a capable attacking asset he can be by racking up 53 goals and 50 assists in 208 club appearances across all competitions including La Liga, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

This could make him the perfect replacement for Traore given how he wasn’t much of a regular goalscorer for the Old Gold having found the back of the net on just 11 occasions in 154 appearances.

Having also been labelled as a “phenomenon” by former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, Dembele could be tempted with a move to Wolves this month to test his game in the Premier League at a club aiming to secure European football.

Moving forward, with the January transfer window set to close on Monday, Wolves will have to move swiftly if they want to have any chance of signing the £27m-rated attacker and hope that their dealings with Barcelona over Traore and Francisco Trincao back in the summer will put them in good stead to secure Dembele’s signature.

AVFC Predicted XI vs Chelsea

After a stellar start under Steven Gerrard, picking up four wins from six games, Aston Villa host a Chelsea side in mixed form in what proves to be both a tricky test, but also an opportunity to record a significant scalp.

Here is how Football FanCast believe Villa will line up against the Blues as Gerrard makes two changes to the win against Norwich City.

In goal, there are no surprises as Emi Martínez makes his 17th league start of the campaign whilst the back four of Matt Targett, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash avoids any tinkering.

There is one change in the midfield as 18-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka is handed his first Premier League start since August and just his second in total.

With Marvelous Nakamba set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the English midfielder has an opportunity to impress and fill the void left by the Zimbabwe international.

The £2.25m-rated midfielder has already made three appearances off of the bench under Gerrard, assisting in the Villans’ last game against Norwich.

Furthermore, having been dubbed “a big game player” by a previous coach, the game against Chelsea could prove the perfect opportunity for Chukwuemeka to state a claim.

Chukwuemeka’s presence means that Jacob Ramsey moves onto the right-wing. Having scored against Norwich last time out, the 20-year-old deserves to maintain his place in the starting lineup.

Emi Buendía keeps his spot in the team on the left flank whilst Danny Ings replaces Ollie Watkins upfront on a precautionary basis.

With Villa set to contest a hectic festive schedule, Gerrard will need to manage his squad effectively and therefore may be tempted to rest some key players, such as Watkins, with nearby fixtures in mind.

Waqar Younis offered Pakistan coaching job

Waqar Younis has been offered a contract by the PCB to coach the Pakistan side until December 2011. The former fast bowler, in Sydney currently, received the contract yesterday and is expected to sign it and send it back over the next few days, in the process becoming Pakistan’s fourth coach in three years. The PCB finally confirmed that they had made an offer to Waqar to coach the side. “I would like Waqar to join the Pakistan team,” Ijaz Butt, chairman PCB, said at a press conference. “We are awaiting a reply as we have offered him to take over as our head coach.”It is believed that Waqar has some concerns over the contract that has been sent and will raise a couple of points with the board. There is likely to be further negotiation over the financial package and Waqar is also keen to have a clause which allows him to take stock of his role after the 2011 World Cup, a buffer of sorts against what is a generally a period of considerable administrative turbulence. Some of the targets set in the contract, about what the team needs to be achieving in that timescale might also be re-calibrated. None of them, however, are thought to be significant enough to derail his desire to be coach.Waqar will likely be working alongside former team-mate Ijaz Ahmed, who will be, according to Butt, the fielding coach for the side. Ijaz was in charge of the recent Under-19 Pakistan side that finished runners-up at the World Cup in New Zealand; as one of the best Pakistan fielders of his time he is expected to improve the lot of what must be among the world’s poorest fielding sides. Ijaz was with the side in Dubai as a batting and fielding trainer for the two Twenty20 internationals against England. The PCB has also spoken about their plans to engage foreign coaches for consultancy stints as and when needed on Pakistan’s tours, of which there will be a few given that they are not playing at home for some time. The idea sits well with Waqar.”I think that is good thinking and I would be happy with anything that works to better and improve the state of the national side,” Waqar told Cricinfo.Remarkably there is still no official announcement on the fate of Intikhab Alam, the man Waqar is replacing. Intikhab still has time to run on his contract; he was appointed for two years in October 2008. The board initially said that a decision would be taken on the coaching set-up only after an inquiry committee analyzing the Australia tour completed its work and made its recommendations. But they seem to have pre-empted themselves by contacting and now offering the position, without having – publicly at least – decided on the fate of Intikhab.
