For Eagles, the only showing of note came from captain Greg Lamb, who made 73 off 74 in the chase before his team fell to a 60-run defeat.Rhinos suffered yet another defeat – their sixth in seven games – with a four-wicket loss to Matabeleland Tuskers, who stayed on top of the table ahead of the tussling Mountaineers and Eagles. Rhinos chose to bat and the decision backfired on them, with seamer Thabo Mboyi carving up the top order. He claimed Bothwell Chapungu and Bradley Wadlan off successive balls in the fourth over, and Rhinos never really recovered. They ended with 185, bowled out in the 44th over, and Mboyi finished with figures of 7.2-0-21-4. Tuskers’ were rocked early in the chase, falling to 3 for 2 in the first over, but half-centuries stands from Godwill Mamhiyo and Brian Chari and then Luke Jongwe and Keith Dabengwa were enough to see them home in the small chase.

The ban has been deemed to have commenced from January 23.According to a PCB release, Umaid’s urine sample was collected on November 29 in Lahore last year when he was representing Khan Research Laboratories against State Bank of Pakistan in the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup. The sample was forwarded to National Dope Testing Laboratory in New Delhi which gave an adverse analytical finding for substances prednisolone and prednisone, both of which fall under category S9. Glucocorticosteroids in the 2013 WADA Prohibited ListAccordingly, Umaid was issued a notice of charge by the PCB on March 25 wherein he was provisionally suspended from participating in any form of cricket pending the proceedings of the anti-doping tribunal, which comprised Shahid Karim, advocate Supreme Court, Wasim Bari, and Dr. Ucksy Mallick.After conducting personal hearings, the tribunal found Umaid guilty of violating article 2.1 of the PCB’s anti-doping code (presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in a cricketer’s sample).Umaid’s individual performances in the 2013 Faysal Bank T-20 Cup will be disqualified.

Highlighting the challenges that await in Sri Lanka, a place where South Africa have not done well in the past, Amla hoped the team would draw from their collective subcontinent experience in dealing with the conditions.”Although I have had a few weeks to give the captaincy a little bit more thought, but nothing much has changed,” Amla said. “I think a lot will change once the series starts, but up until then, my focus mentally is on the one-day series. Fortunately, I was in the UK playing county cricket in preparation for this tour, but in my mind I have been thinking about the ODIs and hopefully we can make amends. The captaincy will come at a later stage.”Two matches, I am quite happy about it. Sri Lanka is a tough place to tour. From a rankings perspective, we have dropped to No. 2, but that is not at the forefront of our objectives. We would love to be there [No. 1] as soon as possible but with the kind of new make-up team that we have, it’s important to find a winning formula first and things will fall into place later.”In three bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka since 2000, South Africa have managed just one win in 13 matches. The team’s record in Tests has not been good either during this period – one win in seven matches. However, they did win the T20s in their limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka last year and Russell Domingo, the South Africa coach, hoped to draw on that confidence.”I know it’s a different format but the way we finished the last two of the T20s. We beat them 2-1,” Domingo said. “It was our first white-ball series win in Sri Lanka, so we can take the confidence from it that we have won a series in the shorter version in Sri Lanka.”I know we lost 4-1 (in the ODIs) last year, but I can remember it as a strange tour. Hashim played one game, then he got sick, then he started playing the next game and broke a finger. So there were lot of disruptions, lot of injuries, and lot of inexperience. There was no Dale Steyn, no Jacques Kallis. Hashim missed a few games. And having that sort of quality will be a massive benefit. Last year was a learning experience for the young players and now we are fortunate to have some of the senior players back. Hopefully that will make a big impact.”South Africa were fortunate to get a match in Hambantota, a venue, Domingo said, that “suits” South Africa because of the extra pace and bounce in the pitch. He was, however, quick to emphasise the wider challenge of the conditions.”The heat is stifling in Sri Lanka and your pace attack can only bowl short spells. It’s anything but easy to bat in Sri Lanka. Very testing conditions, not just the heat, but the nature of the wickets – they are abrasive and it spins,” Domingo said. “We have seen at night times sometimes, it does offer a little bit of movement. So losing early wickets is a possibility that exposes your middle order to their spin strength, which then puts your team under pressure. So it’s not easy to bat in Sri Lanka.”Those batting challenges will extend into the Test series. Among the batsmen, only Amla and AB de Villiers have played a Test, the last of which was eight years ago, in Sri Lanka. While de Villiers scored 217 runs in four innings during the 2006 tour, it was a below average outing for Amla, who managed just 69 runs. Both batsmen have gained in stature since then but Amla said the Sri Lankan bowling, especially Rangana Herath, will be testing.”We have always viewed Herath as a very good bowler, especially in Sri Lankan conditions,” Amla said. “Malinga is not playing Tests anymore, so they have relied on Herath as their main wicket-taker. Let’s not be forgetting or disrespecting to the other bowlers who have done really well for them, but Herath is a factor. If the wickets do turn, we will deal with it. We are fortunate that most of our batters have played in the subcontinent – we have beaten India – and Dubai and in Sri Lanka. Fortunately we have lot of experience and we will draw on that.”

The issue was discussed during Sunday’s working committee meeting because of Srinivasan’s inability to serve as BCCI president until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict in the IPL corruption scandal.According to the BCCI’s regulations, a three-member disciplinary committee is appointed at every annual general meeting, “to inquire into and deal with the matter relating to any act of indiscipline or misconduct or violation of any of the rules and regulations by any player, umpire, team official , administrator, selector or any person appointed or employed by BCCI”. The rules also prescribe that all three members have to be present administrators “of whom the president shall be one of them”.Since the disciplinary committee has to be appointed at every AGM, any change during the term has to be made at an SGM, which will be convened by the board secretary Sanjay Patel with a 21-day notice, in accordance with the rules.Since Srinivasan cannot continue as BCCI president for the moment, he cannot be a part of the disciplinary committee, and it was brought to the notice of the working committee that this issue was preventing the committee from meeting to decide on the allegations against Ajit Chandila. Chandila, who was one of three Rajasthan Royals players arrested by Delhi Police in May 2013, was given additional time to reply to the disciplinary committee in March. Though Chandila has filed his reply, the disciplinary committee comprising Srinivasan and two BCCI vice-presidents Shivlal Yadav and Rajeev Shukla, has not been able to take the proceedings forward.

O Coritiba nem deu bola para o fato de estar atuando fora de casa e começou em cima do rival. O resultado não demorou muito e aos 15 minutos, após cobrança de escanteio, Rodrigão, que vive ótima fase, cabeceou no canto e abriu o placar, 1 a 0.

A equipe do Dragão não se abateu com o gol sofrido e foi à luta buscar o gol de empate. Em duas oportunidades quase que seguidas, o goleiro Wilson precisou fazer grandes defesas e conseguiu evitar o empate naquele momento. Mas na terceira tentativa, o lateral-direito Jonathan, de canhota, acertou belíssimo chute de fora da área e empatou, 1 a 1.

Assim como no primeiro tempo, o Coritiba iniciou a etapa final melhor e por pouco não retomou a vantagem no marcador.

O Atlético-GO queria manter o retrospecto de 100% de aproveitamento dentro de casa no ano e foi para cima da equipe paranaense. Mas o goleiro Wilson estava em noite iluminada e evitou a virada em finalizações de Matheuzinho, Nicolas e Bustamante.

Nesta terça-feira, o Tigre venceu o Bragantino-PA por 2 a 0, no Olímpico, em Goiânia, pela partida de ida da terceira fase da disputa nacional. Depois disso, a equipe visitante pressionou bastante, ao cercar a área colorada, entretanto, não teve um chute perigoso. O Vila ficou no contra-ataque e também não levou perigo aos visitantes. Ao final, o placar ficou favorável aos goianos.

O jogo de volta acontece no sábado, às 16h, no Mangueirão. Caso a equipe goiana vença por qualquer placar, leva a vaga para quarta fase da Copa do Brasil. Se for derrotado por 2 a 0, a decisão vai para os pênaltis. O Bragantino-PA só vai à próxima fase se ganhar por mais de dois gols de diferença.

Com dificuldade de infiltrar na área do Criciúma mesmo tendo mais a posse de bola, foi de fora da área que o Verdão do Oeste encontrou o caminho do primeiro gol. Depois de Everaldo concluir bem cobrança de falta ensaiada e ver a bola passar perto da trave esquerda, cinco minutos depois Elicarlos arriscou chute de muito longe e o goleiro Bruno Grassi, enganado pela bola quicando em sua frente, não conseguiu a defesa.

BOA DIANTEIRA

Aos 38 minutos, Eduardo partiu em disparada pelo lado direito, ganhou da marcação e cruzou rasteiro. Mesmo com o corte parcial da defesa criciumense, Bruno Campanharo teve condições de bater de primeira com o pé esquerdo e fez o segundo dos donos da casa.

A partida seguia em ritmo perigosamente calmo aos visitantes, necessitados da busca por um placar de menor desvantagem já pensando no confronto de volta.
