Celtic: Karamoko Dembele nearing injury return

Celtic winger Karamoko Dembele looks to have taken yet another major step in his recovery from injury.

What’s the latest?

After playing 90 minutes in Celtic B’s 4-0 win over Vale of Leithen last week – the first football the 18-year-old has played since fracturing his ankle against Bristol City in pre-season – the reserve team coach, Tommy McIntyre, hinted that the forward would be making a return to first-team action sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Celtic TV, McIntyre said of Dembele: “It was great to get him back. It was his first game since pre-season when he got the injury. He’s been training really well.

“The first team have been telling me that he’s been training really well with them, so he just really needs game-time. So yes, good to get him back in. I think he enjoyed it as well. You can see the qualities that he’s got – he’s a top player.”

And, following this run out for Celtic’s reserve side, the teenager appeared to take yet another step towards making a return to first-team football on Thursday evening, when Ange Postecoglou selected the England U18 international in his matchday squad for the 3-1 Europa Conference League defeat to Bodo/Glimt.

Postecoglou will be buzzing

Despite the fact that the wide attacking areas of his Celtic squad are arguably the Bhoys’ best-stocked position, the likely availability of Dembele for the visit of Dundee this weekend will nevertheless have left Postecoglou buzzing.

Indeed, with Mikey Johnston having sustained yet another injury, in addition to James Forrest struggling with both form and fitness this season, the return of the 18-year-old will provide the Greek-Australian coach with much greater depth both on the left and right flanks over what remains of the current campaign.

Furthermore, considering the sheer amount of potential the £225k-rated sensation quite clearly possesses, not only will the return of the youngster provide the 56-year-old Bhoys boss with an impressive option from the bench, but Dembele will undoubtedly be pushing both Jota and Liel Abada for their starting berths in the Celtic side.

As such, with this season’s Premiership title race being the closest it has been in over a decade, and with the Bhoys in need of a remarkable European comeback in the second-leg of their Europa Conference League tie with Bodo/Glimt next week, the return of the teenager who could potentially develop into one of the most exciting players to come out of Celtic Park in recent memory will certainly come as a major boost to Postecoglou and his side.

Phil Hay teases Leeds team news vs Man Utd

Adam Forshaw is expected to return to Leeds United’s starting XI for the first time since his return from injury, according to a very reliable source…

What’s the word?

Speaking on this week’s edition of ‘The Phil Hay Show’ on The Athletic, the trusty journalist claimed that the 30-year-old midfielder is expected to start against Manchester United at Elland Road this afternoon.

“Forshaw has to start, for me. I’m pretty sure he will, and particularly after [Marcelo] Bielsa admitted that that was a mistake [not to start him] last weekend,” he claimed.

The long-serving star was withdrawn just 22 minutes into the Whites’ win over West Ham United in the Premier League last month and subsequently missed the clash against Newcastle United before making the bench at Aston Villa.

He came on for five minutes in that match and was substituted on at half-time last weekend, so it appears as if he’s set for his first start since January 16th, over a month ago.

Fantastic news

This will surely leave Leeds supporters absolutely buzzing as one of their much-needed players is set to start in such a crucial encounter, after all, it’s the ‘Battle of the Roses.’

In the absence of Kalvin Phillips, who has missed eight straight games with hamstring troubles, Forshaw has often stepped up to play that sort of deep-lying ball-playing role in front of the backline.

The 30-year-old’s form in a very inconsistent season for the Yorkshire giants has been a real shining light and it’s earned him a fresh contract extension, which only goes to show Bielsa’s faith in him despite his injury problems in the past.

“The extension of Forshaw’s contract is something between the player and the institution. Clearly, his return to the club has been satisfactory,” recently claimed the Argentine head coach.

“Whether he’s played as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder, he’s offered solutions. In the absence of Kalvin Phillips, he has helped us resolve things.”

As per WhoScored, Forshaw has averaged two tackles and 2.2 long balls per game, which compared to the England international is pretty similar, with Phillips averaging 2.3 tackles and 3.5 long balls per outing prior to his injury.

The fanbase love the former Boro man as much as Bielsa does and without Phillips, he really is the best alternative in the engine room, so they will surely be pleased, if not hugely excited ahead of kickoff this afternoon.

AND in other news, Bielsa must brutally axe Leeds’ £34k-p/w passenger v Man Utd, he’s been “non-existent”…

Tom Smith blasted an unbeaten 92 and claimed three wickets as Lancashire Lightning moved up to third in the Friends Provident t20 North Group with a convincing 46-run win over Worcestershire Royals at Old Trafford. The allrounder smashed six sixes and shared half-century partnerships with Paul Horton and Mark Chilton as Lancashire made 170 for 5 at Old Trafford. He then took 3 for 12 as the visitors were bowled out for 124, having at one stage been 104 for 2 and in with a good chance of recording their third straight win.A blistering 54 off just 29 balls from Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya gave the Royals a great start, but Glen Chapple claimed three wickets in four balls and Stephen Parry took 3 for 19 as they lost seven wickets for just 20 runs.Having slumped to 22 for 5 in the five-wicket defeat by Derbyshire just 24 hours earlier, Lancashire fans feared the worst when Stephen Moore and Steven Croft both fell in the opening four balls from Jack Shantry without a run on the board. But Smith and Horton steadied the ship with a 69-run partnership before Horton was caught on the boundary by Phil Jaques off the bowling of James Cameron for 22.Chilton picked up the baton and raced to 34 off just 24 balls, while Smith went past fifty for the third time in the competition this season, following sixes off Moeen Ali and Jayasuriya with two more in successive overs off Daryl Mitchell and Cameron. The pair put on 80 in just 44 balls before Chilton was run out backing up after Smith’s straight drive was deflected onto the stumps by Shantry off his own bowling. But Smith went on to post his career best in Twenty20 cricket, with his 92 coming in 60 balls.Jayasuriya, who had a short spell at Old Trafford in 2007, hit four of the first 13 balls he faced for six and was dropped by Simon Kerrigan, who failed to hold onto an easy chance off Daren Powell’s bowling as Worcestershire started their reply well.At one point the Sri Lankan was 30 off ten balls but Kerrigan made amends in the ninth over as he claimed the catch to dismiss the opener off the bowling of Parry. The Royals were still ahead of the rate at the halfway stage, but then fell foul of some devastating Lightning bowling as Chapple – who accounted for Daryl Mitchell, Jack Manuel and Ben Cox in a four-ball spell – Smith and Parry blasted through the Worcestershire middle and lower order.Lancashire will look to continue their march to the last eight when they host Roses rivals Yorkshire on Friday night.

ANDERSON RAMOS

Diretor executivo do Operário

ROBERT

Técnico do Novo

From Italy: Tottenham enter Tevez mix

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as shared by The Sun, a surprise Tottenham Hotspur transfer claim has now emerged involving free agent Carlos Tevez.

The Lowdown: Tevez searching for new club?

The former Argentina international, once a revelation at Man City under both Mark Hughes and Roberto Mancini, is now without a club after leaving boyhood side Boca Juniors in 2021.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Tevez has been on a European tour as of late, spotted embracing AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli at the Serie A side’s training base, with visits also to the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus over the last week (The Sun).

Having not officially retired from football, despite the veteran being 38-years-old, Tevez now has another trip planned as surprise news emerges involving Spurs.

The Latest: Tottenham ‘shock’ contenders…

According to CDS, as shared by The Sun, Tottenham are now in the mix for City’s former star as they become ‘shock contenders’ to sign him on a free deal.

It is believed he is planning to a trip to Hotspur Way ‘next week’ to visit Antonio Conte in a ‘potential return to the Premier League’.

The Verdict: Pinch of salt?

Tevez’s quality in England’s top flight has been on full display before, most notably at Eastlands, where he managed an incredible 73 goals and 35 assists over 148 appearances for the Sky Blues.

However, potentially signing him on a free deal, like this report suggests, would be a questionable move.

The forward, according to a past claim by The Mirror, would have cost a staggering £100 million in June 2011 in terms of transfer fee and wages combined. A figure unheard of at the time, Tevez is now long-past being valued at such a lofty sum.

It’s been well over ten years since ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admitted to the media he would’ve loved to sign City’s former star, and if Lilywhites supporters re-call, he even raved over the ‘special’ player (The Daily Mail).

However, Tevez’s best days are far behind him, and the ex-West Ham man’s visit to north London should be kept at just that.

Michael Lumb will miss Twenty20 finals day and England’s two Twenty20s against Pakistan after being ruled out for the season due to a broken foot. Lumb was fielding in close against Somerset when he was struck by a shot from his England T20 opening partner Craig Kieswetter.Lumb had struggled for form since returning from the World Twenty20 in the Caribbean and was given a break by Hampshire to allow him to recharge his batteries. The time off appeared to have worked when he had found his touch in the longer format with 158 against Durham last week.Hampshire will miss him in their first appearance at a Twenty20 finals day, especially after they declined to pick Kevin Pietersen in their squad, but it wasn’t certain that he would have been selected for the semi-final against EssexEngland will also miss Lumb in their two Twenty20 internationals in Cardiff early next month. He proved a valuable player in their triumphant ICC World Twenty20 campaign in the Caribbean in May, when he played all seven matches. However, following the two matches against Pakistan, England’s next Twenty20 internationals are not until early January following the Ashes series so Lumb will face a long wait to see if his winner’s medal from West Indies is the start or end of his England career.

MatériaMais Notícias
