The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has expressed dismay at the decision by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to resume disciplinary action against all West Indian players who had breached the board’s Code of Conduct during the home series against England, India and Bangladesh this year.With the breakdown of mediation talks over pay and contractual disputes between the two parties recently, the WICB, in a statement on Monday, said they would go ahead with disciplinary action – a move, they claimed, that had been in motion even before the efforts to broker peace broke down.In response, the WIPA, headed by former West Indies legspinner Dinanath Ramnarine, issued its own release on Tuesday which read: “The said statement not only announces the WICB’s intention to continue such matters but goes considerably further, making claims that are highly prejudicial and intrinsically at odds with the very process the WICB wants to pursue.”It is clear that several of the statements made in this WICB release of September 7 have already drawn conclusions that impinge on the entitlements of those players who may be the subject of any such disciplinary matters and may well give them the view that the WICB referral mentioned in the release is for sentencing rather than for hearing.”WIPA also advised its members who may be affected to “seek legal advice immediately and take whatever action such legal counsel deems appropriate”.It also denied WICB claims that Ramnarine’s departure towards the end of the mediation talks in Barbados had derailed the peace process. WIPA claimed both parties were bound by a confidentiality clause, but the WICB contravened this engagement by revealing details of the talks at separate press conferences in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago last Monday and Tuesday.In addition, WIPA said WICB president Julian Hunte also made public a letter written to CARICOM chairman and Guyana president Bharrat Jagdeo and accused former board director Conde Riley of making copies of the WICB draft agreement public.WIPA also pointed out that on August 31, when the WICB continued in mediation, negotiations did not cease. “In fact, a further proposal put by WIPA and a counter-proposal made by the WICB were discussed and the state of play at the end of the session on 31st August was that a proposal was on the table by the WICB for WIPA’s consideration,” a WIPA release said.”When WIPA returned to talks on Tuesday morning 1st September 2009, led by Mr Ramnarine, who had returned in light of the new proposal put the previous day and a new document introduced late in the evening of 31st August, 2009 by the WICB by way of an email communication, the WICB was only prepared to deal with that new document.”The WICB made it clear that the previous draft agreement, the proposal and counter proposal made on the 31st August, 2009 were no longer to be the subject of any negotiation.”WIPA in turn informed the mediator and the WICB team that the content of the draft document submitted by the WICB on the 1st September 2009 could not be considered a serious and credible proffer for engagement.”

By doing that, it may be seen as essentially writing a season off by many associated with the 20-time English champions, and with a squad as stacked with talent as theirs is, that is a bold call to make.

Previous reports indicated that Pochettino would be available after becoming unhappy with life in Paris, providing hope that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss would fill the Old Trafford hot seat at the second time of asking.

But now in a fresh twist, it seems as though United may have to wait until the summer to get their man, with the delay potentially causing their season to fall into disarray. Considering the Argentine’s expertise of getting into the top four with Spurs, not being able to prise him away from Paris is a significant blow to the rest of their chances this term.

It remains to be seen who replaces Solskjaer in both the short and long-term, but United fans will want a quick solution to what could easily become a rather messy and embarrassing situation. Sadly, this doesn’t look like the case.

Nesta quinta-feira, a Chapecoense anunciou a rescisão de contrato do zagueiro Victor Ramos. Fora dos planos da comissão técnica, o jogador de 28 anos estava treinando afastado desde o final de agosto.

Depois de perder espaço no Vitória, o zagueiro foi contratado pela Chapecoense em abril deste ano. Ele defendeu a equipe em 15 partidas e marcou um gol, na derrota de goleada para o Flamengo, no Rio de Janeiro. Seu último jogo com a camisa verde e branca foi no dia 22 de julho.

De saída, Victor Ramos agradeceu a Chapecoense pela passagem na Arena Condá.

وارتبط اسم سليماني بإمكانية الانتقال إلى الأهلي في الساعات القليلة الماضية، بحسب تقارير صحفية بلجيكية، بعد فشل مفاوضاته مع جينك في الدوري البلجيكي.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has said he will pepper the Indian batsmen with short deliveries when the teams meet in Centurion today for a crucial ICC Champions Trophy match which will decide their semi-final prospects.The Indian top order was caught short by short-pitched deliveries during their failed campaign in the World Twenty20 in England this June. That led to an unexpected recall to the ODI squad for Rahul Dravid, one of the most technically adept batsmen in the country against hostile bowling attacks.”The Indians are used to playing on wickets that don’t really bounce above knee height, so to get a few short ones up there hopefully unsettles them,” Johnson told the . ”Pretty much early on in someone’s innings, or if you find someone who really can’t play the short ball, you’ve probably got to bowl a few more at them.”Australia already have one foot in the top four while India, following their defeat against Pakistan, need to win tonight to stay in contention. Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is just over a month away from his first transfer window at Ibrox with the Glasgow giants.

The Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard at the helm over the last fortnight and could look to put his own stamp on the club by bringing in a couple of additions to bolster his squad in the winter market.

Dream signing

One player who could become a target is Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman. He was linked with a switch to Ibrox from Eredivisie side Heerenveen over the summer, but a move ultimately fell through.

Scottish journalist Stuart Hodge has now refused to rule out the Gers going back in for him. When asked about Veerman as a potential target for Van Bronckhorst, he said: “That one, yeah, potentially. But I think more so, that’s a market that van Bronckhorst will know well, that’s a market that’s affordable for Scottish clubs.”

The £3.1k-per-week gem could be a dream signing for Van Bronckhorst, who may know the midfielder due to his prominence in the Netherlands. Veerman has been a regular for Heerenveen in the Eredivisie, a league in which the 46-year-old Gers coach has played and managed, so he could be well-known to the ex-Barcelona defender.

Former Rangers forward Michael Mols previously described the midfield dynamo as “perfect” in possession, although he did have some concerns over Veerman’s ability to compete in duels. 

Mols told the Daily Record: “He is perfect with the ball and in possession, he’s a really great player. His passing and movement with the ball is really relaxed in a good way.

“But in Scottish football, there is a lot of emphasis on duels and fighting for the ball. I’m just not sure that would suit his style. He would maybe find it a little bit difficult to adapt.”

His potential weakness in individual duels may not be as much of an issue under Van Bronckhorst as it would have been under Gerrard. The latter deployed a 4-3-3 system which could have seen Veerman exposed physically in midfield, whereas the Dutchman’s 4-2-3-1 could see him slot in as a number 10, thus allowing the two holding players to shoulder the bulk of the defensive duties in the middle of the park.

Veerman has shown his quality on the ball in the Netherlands in recent years. In 67 Eredivisie games, he has managed 13 goals and 21 assists, whilst averaging an excellent WhoScored rating of 7.33. Along with Mols’ comments on his ability in possession, this shows that the 23-year-old could arrive at Ibrox and become an attacking force to be reckoned with in the Premiership.

Therefore, he could be a dream first signing for Van Bronckhorst, as he is a fellow Dutchman who could have the quality to make a big impact, and Rangers chief Ross Wilson must duly reignite his interest in the midfielder in the January transfer window.
