Aston Villa: Fans react to Under-23 win

Aston Villa’s Under-23’s defeated Stoke City 8-0 on Monday evening in the Premier League 2.

And a number of Villa supporters were quick to flock to the club’s official social media post following the win.

Villa went to the top of the second division after the big win, with Mark Delaney naming a strong side full of young talent.

An own-goal gave Villa the lead early on after good work from Aaron Ramsey, with Jaden Philogene-Bidace netting a hat-trick and brothers Caleb and Carney Chukwuemeka each scoring twice.

Summer signings for the academy Josh Feeney, Tim Iroegbunam and Finley Thorndike also featured on Monday, along with a trialist.

Villa fans react

Villa praised the Under-23’s in their official Twitter post on social media, naming the scorers in their tweet.

This is what these Villa fans had to say in reply, with many sharing their positive thoughts at the score and one labelling the club’s turnaround as ‘amazing’.

Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey interesting Man City

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith must avoid a repeat of Jack Grealish’s summer exit as news emerges on Manchester City’s interest in Jacob Ramsey.

What’s the story?

With 22 appearances to his name in the Premier League last season, the 20-year-old enjoyed a real breakthrough campaign at Villa Park, establishing himself as a key part of Dean Smith’s first-team squad.

Now, Spanish outlet Fichajes have claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side have earmarked Ramsey as a potential target, and that they are keeping a close eye on his situation at Villa Park.

Villa fans would be fuming

Villa’s former academy manager Sean Kimberley has previously raved about Ramsey, saying: “If he continues to match his undoubted technical ability and eye for a goal with the desire and energy to reach the next level, he will have a bright future in the game.”

Smith himself has gone on record to say that the youngster has an “awful lot of potential”, while former Villa man Alan Hutton simply dubbed him as a “class player”.

The Birmingham Mail’s Ashley Preece recently lauded the midfielder’s start to the new Premier League season, saying: “I think Jacob Ramsey could save Villa a fortune. I did note down in pre-season that he looked much bigger in stature, he’s really a size now like a boxer. Glided past Chelsea at the Bridge, and that will build his confidence. He can go to Stamford Bridge and give Saul the runaround like he did, and that will bode well.

“He backed up his Newcastle performance with another one at Chelsea, and let’s see what he can do this season. A really good start for Ramsey. He could save Villa millions.”

Having already seen Grealish make that switch to Etihad, it would surely leave Villa fans fuming to see their next breakout star from the academy also follow that same path in the near future.

Meanwhile, Gregg Evans drops an Aston Villa update on this star…

Stress fracture rules Sreesanth out of IPL

Sreesanth, the Indian and Kings XI Punjab fast bowler, will miss this year’s IPL due to a stress fracture to his back

Sreesanth, the India and Kings XI Punjab fast bowler, will miss this year’s IPL due to a stress fracture of his back.He was one of Punjab’s key bowlers last season with his 19 scalps making him the tournament’s second highest wicket-taker. He was also involved in an infamous spat with Harbhajan Singh during the match against the Mumbai Indians.”It is unfortunate that Sreesanth will not be participating in the season two due to his back injury,” Punjab coach Tom Moody said. “He is a performer and was a great asset to the team last season and his absence on the field will surely be felt.”Sreesanth, who is currently in Sydney as part of his rehabilitation process, said he wanted to be with the team through the tournament even though he wouldn’t be participating. “I will be their motivator and will cheer them through to the IPL season two finals.” He will also interact with fans during the event in his role as ‘fan mentor’ and ‘community face’ for the franchise.A string of injuries have kept Sreesanth on the sidelines for much of the time since last season’s IPL. It has been nearly a year since he played for India, his patchy performances in the Duleep Trophy not convincing the selectors to pick him for the New Zealand tour. The latest fitness problem also reduces his chances of being part of India’s defence of the World Twenty20, to be held in England this June.

Nabil Fekir: West Ham eye next Payet

West Ham are one of three Premier League teams considering a move for Nabil Fekir this winter…

What’s the word?

That’s according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim the Irons are interested in signing the 28-year-old attacking midfielder from La Liga outfit Real Betis.

It’s thought that a contract extension is on the table, with negotiations at an advanced stage, but a big offer from abroad could change things.

Everton and Arsenal are also mentioned in the report, though it remains to be seen exactly how much he could command in January.

Transfermarkt value the 25-time France international at £22.5m and he remains contracted to the Green and Whites until at least the summer of 2023.

Shades of Payet

Under ex-Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini, Fekir has been one of the Spanish top-flight’s best-performing players this campaign, with the exception of just two players.

As per WhoScored, only leading goalscorer Karim Benzema (8.37) and his Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Junior (7.71) have earned a higher rating than the Frenchman’s 7.57 so far this term.

Fekir has been a constant nuisance in the no.10 role for Betis, averaging a whopping 3.4 key passes (first in La Liga), 3.3 shots (second in La Liga) and 3.1 dribbles (first in La Liga) per game, via WhoScored.

These are returns that eclipses pretty much every single West Ham star.

Only Michail Antonio has managed more shots (4.5 per game), whilst the 31-year-old also tops the charts for key passes (2.5 per game), with Jarrod Bowen ranking first for dribbles (2.7 per game).

A dynamic, French maestro who can do it all in the final third? That very much sounds reminiscent of former Irons sensation Dimitri Payet, a player that could get the fans on the edge of their seats in any given game.

“Fekir is a big player, and when I was in France, he scored incredible goals,” ex-Bordeaux star Malcom once told Telefoot (via Goal), further highlighting the similarities between the two.

Meanwhile, Betis president Angel Haro recently also waxed lyrical about his creative abilities.

“He is doing magnificently well. He is a champion of the world with tremendous quality,” he told Marca. “When you see him move with the ball, glued to his foot, you know he is going to do something genius.”

Also dubbed a “magician” by La Liga’s official Twitter account, the 5 foot 8 dynamo could be the Hammers’ most exciting player since Payet, should David Moyes and co secure a move for him in the upcoming transfer window.

With Nikola Vlasic looking hugely underwhelming in his first few appearances for the club, Fekir could yet be the major upgrade in the attacking midfield role.

If there’s a chance to sign him, then the Hammers must do all they can to secure him.

AND in other news, “I’m hearing”: West Ham hero drops huge behind-the-scenes claim, fans will be buzzing…
