Watford are interested in signing Joe Pigott this summer, according to recent reports…

What’s the word?

That’s the word according to The Mirror’s Sam Elliot, who tweeted that the AFC Wimbledon centre-forward is “likely” to be Watford’s first signing since they secured their return to the Premier League.

Elliot also claims that the 27-year-old would earn “six times his current wage” – which is reported to be £2,100-per-week – if a move to Vicarage Road is completed, meaning that Pigott would earn around £12,600-per-week at Watford.

So far this season, Pigott has highly impressed over his 42 League One appearances for Mark Robinson’s side, with the striker scoring 18 goals and registering five assists, as well as averaging a rather remarkable WhoScored match rating of 7.20 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the third tier.

What makes the former Charlton Athletic striker’s haul even more impressive is that he is currently playing in a quite poor Wimbledon team, as the Dons are currently sitting just five points above the League One relegation zone in 19th place.

And, with Troy Deeney having been sidelined for long spells of this season due to injury, something that could become a more regular occurrence as the 33-year-old grows older, it would be a smart move for Watford to begin their search to replace the club captain.

As such, despite there being an obvious difference in standards between the third tier and the Premier League, Pigott would nonetheless appear to represent an extremely astute signing for Xisco Munoz’s side, not only because of his evident eye for goal, but also because of the finances involved in a potential transfer.

With the 27-year-old’s contract up at the end of the current campaign, the only fee Watford would be required to pay for Pigott would be the striker’s wages and a signing-on fee, meaning that there is not much risk for the Hornets if they do complete the signing of a player who former Wimbledon manager, Wally Downes, once dubbed as “magnificent”.

علق مرتضى منصور رئيس مجلس إدارة نادي الزمالك على الأنباء التي انتشرت مؤخرًا عن اكتشاف الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم فيفا وجود تزوير في عقد محمود عبد المنعم كهربا لاعب الأهلي المعار لنادي هاتاي سبور الحالي.

وكان نادي الزمالك قد تقدم بشكوى ضد كهربا بداعي أنه انضم لصفوف الأهلي بعد التوقيع للقلعة البيضاء.

وقال مرتضى منصور خلال مداخلة هاتفية على قناة “الحدث”: “أضحك كثيرًا على موضوع اللاعب محمود عبد المنعم كهربا، فالأخير عقده موثق بالاجراءات القانونية، ورئيس لجنة شؤون اللاعبين في ذلك التوقيت مجدي عبد الغني قال إن عقده صحيح 100% وايضًا أحمد مجاهد”.

واستطرد: “عندما تقدم كهربا بشكواه في البداية، قال إن العقد مبرم في غير موعده وتوثيقه خطأ، واتحاد الكرة أرسل خطاب رسمي وقال العقد والتوثيق صحيحان، وإذا كان هذا ليس توقيع كهربا فكيف ظللت لمدة سنة ونصف تحصل على مستحقاتك؟”.

واستأنف: “كهربا قال انه رحل عن الزمالك لأن رئيس النادي يسبه، كهربا كان يقول لي يا بابا ويقبل رأسي”.

وكشف: “أما عن قضية محمد ابراهيم، فـ قبل 30 يوليو المقبل ستصل المستحقات إلى نادي ماريتيمو البرتغالي، ومعروف يوسف خسر القضية، بعد أن كنا نرجوه للحصول على 400 ألف دولار، وقضية كريستيان جروس انتهت، وقضية خالد بو طيب انقلبت ضده”.

وعاود الحديث عن كهربا: “نجحت في إعارته مقابل 4 مليون دولار حينما كان الدولار غاليًا، والنادي الأهلي وافق على اعارته مقابل 300 ألف دولار لأن الأهلي يعلم أنه سيخسر القضية، والنادي التركي اشترط في العقد تحمل الأهلي أي غرامة ستوقع بسبب انتقال كهربا، وإذا كانت الأمور طبيعية سنفوز بالقضية مرة أخرى”.

وأتم: “هناك اجتماع مع الشركة المسؤولة على بناء الاستاد والفرع الجديد للنادي غدًا، وأمير مرتضى منصور جايب لي خريطة للتدعيم الفريق”.

واختتم: “لا يليق أن أجدد لمحمد أبو جبل وأشرف بن شرقي وسيف الجزيري وطارق حامد قبل مباراة يوم السبت المقبل أمام الوداد المغربي في دوري أبطال إفريقيا”.

Barry Fry has told Football FanCast that Liverpool must back Jurgen Klopp this summer or risk losing him.

The Reds have endured a terrible season and are in a fight to finish in the top four, instead of trying to defend the Premier League title that they won last term.

Indeed, they drew three games last season and lost three, though, after their clash with Newcastle United they had drawn nine and lost nine this season.

Liverpool have struggled with various injury woes, particularly defensively, as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have both missed vast swathes of the season.

With the summer transfer window coming up, Fry has told FFC that the ownership of the club must give Klopp the funds needed to bring his squad up to scratch.

He believes that it is a test of the ownership’s ambition, and if their desires do not align with Klopp’s, Fry believes the German could well walk away.

He said: “He likes winning things, he likes his players to play the style that they play, which is exciting, attack-minded, which suits the fans, but you’ve got to have the players to do that.

“It’ll be interesting to see where he goes, who he wants this year, out of his recruitment. It’ll much depend on what his budget is, obviously, that will really tell us whether Liverpool, as a football club, are as ambitious as their manager is.

“And if they’re not, he might not be there.”

Former Tottenham Hotspur great Graham Roberts has told The Transfer Tavern that Erik Lamela needs to leave the club this summer as part of an exodus involving players who have been “trouble”.

The Argentine has been linked with a move away from Spurs in recent weeks.

Reports have suggested that he could return to Serie A, having moved to Spurs from Roma back in 2013.

The 29-year-old has spent eight years at the club but has been a sporadic contributor when it comes to goals and assists.

£80,000-a-week man Lamela has made a total of 256 appearances for the club across his lengthy spell in north London but he has scored just 37 goals and provided 47 assists.

It remains to be seen if there will be bidders for Lamela this summer but Roberts believes that Spurs have to start to rebuild, and he believes that the time has come for the former River Plate winger to move on.

Speaking exclusively to TT, he said: “We also need to get the ones that have been trouble this year and not played well, we need to get rid of them. I would (include Lamela in that).

“I’m not saying he didn’t play well but if you’ve been here eight years and you’re not in the team every week, then there’s something wrong. I think he’s a good squad player, I think he does really, really well when he comes on or when he plays; I think he’s better off coming off the bench when he plays but do we need him to sit on the bench?

“We haven’t won anything in years and years and years so it might be good for him and it might be good for us that we get some money for him and we move on.”

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has criticised Dejphon Chansiri for his decision not to hire a director of football.

The Sheffield Wednesday owner recently reiterated to the fan engagement panel that he has no intention of appointing a director of football, adamant that the manager should have the final say on recruitment.

With the managerial merry-go-round that has taken place at Hillsborough this season, though, some may wonder if there is any point in giving a manager total control over transfers when he could be shown the door the next month.

On the topic, Palmer told FFC:

“He keeps reiterating he doesn’t want to get a director of football. He’s put a shedload of money in the football club and he’s on the brink of being relegated to League One when he should have been in the Premier League. And he’s saying he doesn’t want a director of football at the football club? That says it all.

“As far as I’m concerned, whoever is advising him… I’m not knocking the chairman. I get grief for not supporting the chairman and whatever, but I’m just a realist and call it as it is.

“He has put a lot of money into the football club, that there can be no arguments about. But he’s been badly advised, hence why Sheffield Wednesday are in the position they’re in this season.”

As things stand, Wednesday are set to lose a whole host of players this summer due to expiring contracts.

It means a large rebuilding job may need to be carried out at Hillsborough before the start of next season, so perhaps the arrival of a director of football would be useful.
