Liverpool fans debate future of Nathaniel Clyne

A piece in the Liverpool Echo has sparked a conversation among the Merseyside club’s fanbase.

The report suggests that Nathaniel Clyne’s time at Liverpool is coming to an end as he has failed to win back a place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Only a few seasons ago, the right-back was a regular for both the Reds and England.

Since suffering an injury in July 2017, Clyne has had to watch on the sidelines as academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold grabbed the spot and made it his own.

The 27-year-old only made five appearances in all competitions last season and has just one under his belt in the current campaign.

Interestingly, Joe Gomez has been selected to act as cover for Alexander-Arnold despite the fact that the 21-year-old has been playing most of the season partnering Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

Check out Playmaker FC’s Tom Skinner’s unfiltered take on Wayne Rooney’s England legacy in the video below…

The suggestion from the Liverpool Echo that Clyne may need to move on from Anfield has drawn in the attention of supporters, who have posted their thoughts on Reddit.

Revealed: 53% of Leeds fans want Bielsa to sign Tahith Chong on loan

[ad_pod ]

The Leeds fans that answered our recent poll were split on whether the club should target Manchester United wonderkid Tahith Chong in January.

The 18-year-old winger is yet to make his debut for the Premier League giants, but he has netted five goals and provided two assists in 12 games for the U23 side.

Despite his young age and the quality in the United squad, Chong has also been included on the bench for the first-team by Mourinho this season, most notably in the clash with Juventus in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

The young Dutchman was signed from the Feyenoord academy on a free transfer in the summer of 2016 and has represented his country at all stages between the U15 and U19 teams.

After their 4-1 thumping at the hands of West Brom, it would seem that Marcelo Bielsa will need to refresh his squad in the January transfer window. However, just 53 per cent of Leeds fans were keen for the Argentine to target Chong, with just under half perhaps preferring that Bielsa develop’s the Whites’ own young talent like Jack Clarke. Opinion: Leeds should add to their attack with January move for McGeady

[ad_pod ]

Leeds are still struggling to convert their dominance in games into clear-cut chances, and the Whites should make a January move for Aiden McGeady.

What’s the word?

Leeds grabbed another three points on Tuesday, moving within touching distance of the top of the league thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Reading.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are averaging 59 per cent possession in games so far this season, and signing McGeady could help unlock those deep-lying defences.

The Sunderland winger is quite frankly too good for League One, and he could have a similar impact at Elland Road to Pablo Hernandez.

The next Hernandez?

Hernandez has undoubtedly been Leeds’ best signing of the last few years, despite the fact that the winger was in his thirties when he joined.

Like Hernandez, McGeady has the flair and bravery to produce magical moments when the team is struggling to create chances, and the 32 year-old is having a lot of fun in League One.

He scored once and added two assists as the Black Cats romped past Barnsley on Tuesday, and also won the penalty that he scored from.

That takes his total this season to five goals and four assists, meaning he has more goal involvements than every Leeds player bar two – Hernandez and Kemar Roofe.

McGeady’s speed, directness, trickery and vision and would add yet another unique component to Bielsa’s attack, and give defenders another creative force to worry about when trying to defend deep.

Fans are desperate for chairman Andrea Radrizzani to splash some cash in January, and a short-term deal for McGeady could bring a new cult hero to Elland Road.

So, Leeds fans, would you back a move for McGeady? Is he good enough? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Revealed: 52% of Rangers fans want Juan Castillo in January

[ad_pod ]

The Rangers fans that answered our recent poll were split on whether Steven Gerrard should make a January loan move for young Chelsea left-back Juan Castillo.

So far this season, boss Steven Gerrard has rotated between summer signings Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic as well as midfielder Andy Halliday in that role, but he may need to add more quality in January if the Gers are to push on and challenge Celtic in the league.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”336490″ player=”12034″ title=”Kaiser The Greatest Footballer To Never Play Football Storyteller”]

Castillo then would be an attacking option who could slot straight in and allow Halliday to play in his more natural position. The 18-year-old is yet to make his debut for the Chelsea first-team but he has been lighting up the U23 squad this season, and currently has two goals and five assists in 15 games at either left-back or left-midfield.

However, only 52 per cent of the Rangers fans that answered our poll said that they would support a move, potentially believing that Gerrard should prioritise other areas of the pitch. Check out the full results of our poll below.

Liverpool fans react hilariously to Klopp fine

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to news of Jurgen Klopp’s post-derby fine, as the Reds’ boss has accepted a charge and fine for his goal celebrations.

If Divock Origi scoring the winner after watching the ball bounce off the crossbar twice wasn’t a bizarre enough ending to the Merseyside Derby, then Klopp put the icing on the cake by sprinting onto the pitch to celebrate with Alisson Becker.

The German’s passionate celebrations and hilarious outbursts are part of what make him so popular on Merseyside, but he went a little too far over the line with this one, pun intended.

While Marco Silva has since said he has no problem with Klopp’s celebration, the Liverpool boss has now accepted an FA misconduct charge and will be fined around £8,000.

Fans are heaping praise on their leader for the incident though, even saying the £8,000 is money well spent to get one over on their oldest foes.

The Toffees looked far better than they have at Anfield for years, but the city is still red for now, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Yes to Davis, but Rangers must also seek to land Southampton’s Matt Targett in January

According to a recent report from The Scottish Sun, Steven Davis could be set for a move away come the New Year. The midfielder currently plays his football at Premier League outfit Southampton and has done so since leaving Rangers back in 2012, although a lack of regular game time this term has plunged his future at St Mary’s into huge doubt.

And reports suggest that new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will allow the 33-year-old to leave the South Coast outfit in the January transfer window, with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers reportedly keen on luring the Northern Ireland international back to Ibrox.

And while a reunion with Davis would certainly bolster the Gers’ ranks, Gerrard must also seek to lure his Southampton teammate Matt Targett to the Light Blues in a bid to improve his flagging left back department.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Gerrard’s side have given themselves a chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title heading into the second half of the season, although recent disappointments in losing at home to Aberdeen and drawing at bottom side Dundee suggests that they could do with some additions in the January window.

And 33-year-old Davis, who won three Scottish league titles with Rangers during his time at the club between 2008 and 2012, would no doubt add a huge amount to Gerrard’s midfield ranks, be it a bit more creativity as well as a vast amount of experience at the top level.

But it’s also clear that the club are in need of further reinforcements at left back, what with summer signing Borna Barisic the only natural left back at Ibrox, alongside the fact that he has spent the last few months on the sidelines.

And while midfielder Andy Halliday has done well deputising for the Croatia international, it’s a weakness that is only likely to get exploited as the season wears on – clearly, another accomplished option is needed in that area of the field.

And they should look no further than Southampton’s Targett, who has found regular first team football hard to come by at St Mary’s this term behind England international Ryan Bertrand.

The 23-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, has appeared just five times in the Premier League for the Saints so far this term to underline his lowly position in the pecking order, albeit three of those appearances have come in their last four matches.

Yes, opportunities may be even more forthcoming during the busy Christmas period, but overall one would expect former Chelsea ace Bertrand to regain his place as the number left back as the season wears on – yet at the age of 23, Targett is in need of regular football himself.

And that is why a move to Rangers makes sense for all parties involved – Gerrard’s side clearly need to strengthen that area of the pitch, while Targett clearly needs the regular football he may not get at Southampton.

Thus, while the Gers must seek to lure Davis to Ibrox, they must also try and lure his Saints teammate Targett to the club in the New Year.

Leeds fans heap praise on Jansson display vs Bolton

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been giving their verdict on their hard-fought win at Bolton, and they’re heaping praise on the dominant display of Pontus Jansson.

Leeds are back on top of the table thanks to Saturday’s results, as the Whites picked up a crucial three points at the University of Bolton Stadium while Norwich dropped points at Bristol City.

The Whites didn’t have it all their own way though, as a very physical Bolton side heaped pressure on Marcelo Bielsa’s injury-hit back line with a constant stream of long balls.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

While Patrick Bamford’s goal on his return from injury will rightly take all the headlines, there is plenty of praise for Jansson, who started alongside Kalvin Phillips in the heart of defence.

The 27 year-old has become a cult hero at Elland Road, and he certainly hasn’t done that reputation too much harm with Saturday’s display.

He won a remarkable 13 aerial duels in the 1-0 win, led the all players on the pitch in touches with 110, and also made three tackles, two interceptions and five clearances.

You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where fans are once again stunned by the performance of their Swedish sensation…

West Ham’s move for Medel is a stroke of genius from Pellegrini

[ad_pod ]

West Ham are reportedly eyeing a deal for tough tackling Chilean international Gary Medel, and it might just be Manuel Pellegrini’s smartest Hammers’ coup yet.

What’s the story?

According to Sky Sports, West Ham are interested in Medel, and club officials will travel to Turkey in the coming days to discuss a deal for the Besiktas ace.

Medel, who has Premier League experience with Cardiff City, is viewed as a replacement for the injured Carlos Sanchez.

The 31 year-old can play as a defensive midfielder or centre back, and has racked up 114 caps for Chile.

Why do they need him?

The Hammers are on their best run of Premier League form since February 2014, winning four games in a row and scoring 11 goals in those four games.

While Pellegrini’s side are now up to ninth in the table, they have conceded 25 goals in 17 games, and the lack of a proper defensive midfielder is the major reason why.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

Jack Wilshere is expected to miss the majority of the season while Sanchez is  out long-term with a knee injury, and an injury to one of Fabian Balbuena or Issa Diop would leave things light as the back as well.

Medel can play both positions, and his experience, versatility and downright fearlessness will be a huge addition to the Hammers’ squad.

What is he good at?

Medel has earned a reputation for mean tackling, and it’s a reputation he is most certainly living up to this season, averaging 2.7 tackles per game for Besiktas, with seven yellow cards already this campaign.

He is also a very underrated passer, creating 0.5 chances per game and completing 89 per cent of his overall passes.

The 31 year-old can play multiple positions, has Premier League, European and International experience, and will add another leader to a West Ham squad that is growing in skill and confidence.

So, West Ham fans, would you back a move for Medel? Let us know your thought by voting in the poll below…

Bradley Dack could have Southampton fans forgetting all about Dusan Tadic

Southampton have sorely missed Dusan Tadic who departed for Ajax in the summer following a number of years at St. Marys.

Tadic moved back to the Eredivisie in the summer and has been in fine form for the Dutch giants. To replace him, Mark Hughes splashed £16m to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel, but the Norwegian has struggled immensely so far. Reports suggest that new boss Ralph Hassenhuttl will look to move the winger on in January but has been unable to find any potential suitors as of yet.

The Austrian will have to offload a number of fringe players to generate some transfer funds in order to tailor the squad to meet his needs. Signing a top playmaker would seriously improve their chances of climbing up the Premier League table in 2019.

An ideal transfer target would be Blackburn Rovers hotshot – Bradley Dack. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Englishman has been a key player for Rovers since joining from Gillingham back in the summer of 2017. Dack hit the ground running at Ewood Park, guiding the club back to the Championship in his first season – scoring 18 league goals on his way to being named as the League One Player of the Year.

Yet again, the 24-year-old has been in fantastic form in the higher division, scoring nine goals already in the Championship as well as registering four assists for his team-mates. Dack’s arrival at St. Marys would go a long way to replacing the creativity lost as a result of Tadic’s departure. The playmaker has the vision to carve open defences and could develop a wonderful understanding with Danny Ings in the attack. With an eye for a goal and expert dribbling ability, Dack has all the right attributes to be a success in England’s top division.

Joining the Saints could see Dack knocking on the door of Gareth Southgate for an England call up.

Southampton fans, thoughts?

Newcastle fans slam Jamaal Lascelles for Wednesday’s performance

Newcastle are now four games without a win after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday – while the hosts were resolute for much of the game, a lapse in concentration from Martin Dubravka gifted the Red Devils the lead in the second half before Marcus Rashford slotted home his side’s second.

While the goalkeeper was surely subject to some stick today, Jamaal Lascelles can count himself lucky that he remained on the pitch for the full 90 after a daring display, to say the least.

The Magpies captain was denied a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad in the summer despite a good 2017/18 season but few of the Toon Army would consider arguing with the waistcoated miracle-worker’s decision after seeing Lascelles in action last night.

The 25-year-old was pretty lucky to remain on the pitch as he adopted an risky approach to defending in which he threw himself into everything and everyone in sight and escaped with just a yellow.

These Newcastle fans certainly feel that the centre-back had a poor game, as they slated him on Twitter throughout and after his performance…
