Pundit thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat Real Madrid if Kane fit

The build-up to the first Champions League encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid was dominated by transfer rumours linking Harry Kane with a move to the Bernabeu.

The second fixture between the pair has also been dominated by Kane, but this time it is centred around the striker’s fitness.

Tottenham were without the 24-year-old for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United due to a hamstring injury.

The England international has returned to training ahead of Wednesday’s showdown against Madrid at Wembley, but manager Mauricio Pochettino is unsure whether Kane will be named in the first XI.

After sealing two wins and a draw, Spurs are well positioned to qualify for the last 16 in Europe, which means that they could afford to rest Kane rather than risk him.

Football pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that Pochettino’s men could rub salt into the wound of Madrid, who head into this week’s match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Girona in La Liga.

The former Arsenal forward told Sky Sports:

“Real Madrid had a shocking result losing to Girona on Sunday and if Kane is fully fit then they are there for the taking. They look all over the place and looking to blame each other, with Sergio Ramos likely to be up to his old tricks and Cristiano Ronaldo unhappy with the physical treatment he’ll get from Tottenham’s defence.”

In Focus: Agent of West Ham United’s Kouyate could be playing games

The agent of Cheikhou Kouyate has told turkish-football.com that his client is happy at West Ham United, but has not ruled out a summer move.

What’s the word?

The Senegal international has been part of the Hammers fold since 2014 when he signed from Anderlecht.

The 27-year-old has played in a variety of positions, including midfield, centre-back and a spell as a right-back, which proved to be troublesome.

Saffet Balkan, who claims to be Kouyate’s agent, has revealed to turkish-football.com that numerous clubs have expressed an interest in signing his client at the end of the season.

“We have received a lot of interest. Interest spiked after Senegal qualified for the World Cup yesterday. Several clubs and agents want to hold talks. The Italian and Premier League scouts have been very impressed. Kouyate is very happy in England, he’s settled into life. There are no offers on the table at this stage, we will hold talks and consider our options.”

Could this be the end of the road?

Comments made to the press by football agents should generally be taken with a pinch of salt.

On some occasions, interviews with the media are used to make it known that a player wants to leave.

They can also be used as a way to force the footballer’s current club into offering improved contract terms.

In Kouyate’s case, it is unclear, but the midfielder’s future will become less murky as the season progresses.

David Moyes was appointed West Ham boss last week and over the course of the coming months, the Scotsman will decide who he wants in his team and who will be shown the door.

Kouyate has versatility on his side, but in 12 appearances in all competitions this season, the Senegal international has lacked consistency.

In total, he has made 120 outings for West Ham, scoring 14 goals in the process.

In Focus: Masina too inexperienced to replace Rose at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Bologna left-back Adam Masina as a potential replacement for Danny Rose, according to The Mirror.

What’s the word?

Rumours are rumbling that Rose could be on his way to Manchester United in the January transfer market.

Since coming back from a lengthy layoff with a knee injury in mid-October, the England international has made four appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old was not included in the squad that drew 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, which led to suggestions that he could be on his way out of North London.

The Mirror reports that 23-year-old Masina, who was born in Morocco but represents Italy, has been selected as an option to replace Rose.

The left-back has 18 months remaining on his contract, suggesting that Tottenham could get a cheap deal if his club are willing to negotiate.

Is Masina the right man?

The young player is a regular starter in Serie A having been in Bologna’s first XI 11 times in the league so far this season.

Masina possesses the pace needed in the full-back position at Spurs, but if the club want to continue pushing for titles and silverware, they need a replacement that can match up.

The Italy Under-21 international is an exciting prospect, but Tottenham should be looking for more experience in that area.

At the moment it seems that Ben Davies will take the regular role after initially coming in to cover during Rose’s injury absence.

The Wales international has performed well, but it is important for the club to have a suitable back-up in place.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender thinks Wembley curse is well and truly over

When Tottenham Hotspur were preparing to move into their temporary home of Wembley before the start of the season, many wondered if the ground would be a hindrance.Last season, Mauricio Pochettino’s men struggled at the national side, which was used for the club’s European matches. In the early stages of the current 2017-18 campaign, it seemed that the so-called Wembley curse would not be broken as the team recorded one defeat and two draws in their first three Premier League games at the ground. However, in their last six home league matches, the North London outfit have earned five wins and a draw.Tottenham are only being housed at Wembley this season as they wait for the construction of their new state-of-the-art stadium to be completed. The ground is expected to be ready for the 2018-19 season, and former Spurs defender Graham Roberts thinks that the team will adapt to their new surroundings quickly. The 58-year-old took to Twitter to rubbish the Wembley curse.

Two players Celtic must buy and one they should sell this summer

Celtic have already made a couple of additions in the summer transfer market, but manager Brendan Rodgers will likely want more in the coming days and weeks – especially given as he will be competing against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side this term.

The addition of Odsonne Edouard and Scott Bain has sorted the striking and goalkeeping positions and ensured that a further major overhaul of the squad isn’t needed, but there will still be a certain couple of areas that will need strengthening if the Scottish Premiership champions are to win their eighth successive title.

Those reinforcements could come in midfield and defence in particular – with further options needed in the centre of the park and at full-back in particular – especially following the departure of Stuart Armstrong to Southampton.

Rodgers and the club, whose fans have had their say on a potentially huge exit rumour, have already shown their ambition in the past, and now they must make it a priority to make some brilliant additions, in conjunction with letting individuals leave, to help them shine domestically and in the Champions League.

Here are two huge signings Celtic must make this summer, as well as one major sale…

While he did pick up 18 bookings in 43 appearances for Hibernian from the middle of the park last term, McGinn also showed his qualities going forward with six goals and a further eight assists.

The 23-year-old Scotland international looks more than ready to take that next step in his career, and he could be the perfect replacement for Stuart Armstrong and a real star alongside the likes of Scott Brown during the upcoming campaign.

While he could come at a price, he could prove to be a worthwhile purchase in the long-term for Rodgers and the club.

One of Rodgers’ main transfer wishes this summer appears to be to bring in a new right-back to provide Mikael Lusting with some much-needed competition, and there may be few better options than Wigan Athletic’s Nathan Byrne.

While the speedy 26-year-old has just made the step back up to the Championship with the Latics, he showed the real quality he has during his side’s FA Cup victories against Premier League outfits Bournemouth, West Ham United and Manchester City last term, and he would be a brilliant addition for the Bhoys.

The chance to play Champions League football and win titles and trophies may well be enough to certainly tempt the full-back north of the border.

The Belgium international has made three appearances for Belgium at the 2018 World Cup and generally impressed, but with just a year remaining on his contract at Celtic Park his future is certainly in some doubt.

Brendan Rodgers is keen for the 27-year-old to sign a new deal to stay in the Scottish capital, but The Scottish Sun report that Fulham are ready to bid big to bring him to the Premier League.

Given his contract status and the fact that he is more than replaceable, perhaps it would be best for all parties if he is sold to the highest bidder in the next few weeks.

Revealed: Small majority of Liverpool fans confident club can land Dybala

All football fans want their clubs to secure a marquee signing during the summer transfer, and if Liverpool bring in Paulo Dybala from Juventus, he will certainly fit in that category.

The attacking star had an impressive season for the Italian giants by scoring 24 goals, 22 of which were in Serie A, as well as seven assists in all competitions.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Reds are considering making an offer for the Argentina international.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”269905″ player=”12034″ title=”Football’s Coming Home The Myth Behind ‘Three Lions'”]

Doubts have arisen over Dybala’s future in Turin due to rumours that the club could be making a sensational move for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jurgen Klopp has plenty of attacking talent at his disposal at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane sharing the goal burden.

It is safe to say that the arrival of Dybala would take the Reds to the next level, and would make their attack even deadlier than it is.

With that being said, is a transfer even a realistic possibility due to the likelihood that Juventus will be demanding a world-record fee?

Barcelona have paved the way for Tottenham to sign Andre Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make their first venture into the transfer market this summer, but a recent report suggests that one of their long-term targets is available for transfer.

According to the Spanish media outlet Marca, Barcelona have opened the door for 7 players to depart the club this summer, including Andre Gomes (valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder was highly-regarded in La Liga following an impressive debut campaign with Valencia, but since he departed for Barcelona he has desperately struggled to reach the pinnacle of his game.

Problems relating to his mental health and the pressure associated with playing for a club with astronomical expectations have had a negative impact on his development, and it seems the Catalan giants are ready to part ways with him as a consequence.

The playmaking central midfielder fits the Barcelona model on paper: he is typically a silky ball player with the composure to collect the ball in tight areas before distributing to great effect, but those qualities have failed to shine through at Barcelona like they did at Valencia.

But under a manager of Pochettino’s expertise and within a harmonious Tottenham squad, Gomes would have the perfect opportunity to resurrect his career and banish the demons of his Nou Camp nightmare.

And considering there is a strong chance Mousa Dembele will depart the club this summer, the arrival of a new ball-playing midfielder is exactly what Tottenham need to focus on before the window slams shut.

The recent report from Spain strongly suggests that Gomes will indeed be available, so the only obstacle preventing Spurs from securing his signature is their own decision making process.

His struggle to cope with pressure is a notable cause for concern, but the level of expectation at Tottenham is nothing close to the level which the Barcelona supporters and hierarchy have come to expect from the players, so Pochettino should take advantage of Gomes’ availability and bring him to North London in the coming weeks.

Crystal Palace should abandon their interest in Michail Antonio

Crystal Palace will be desperately hoping that they can convince Wilfried Zaha to remain at Selhurst Park this summer despite plenty of reports linking him with a transfer away from South London, but a recent report from the Daily Mail suggests they are exploring the possibility of adding to their squad this summer, rather than selling their crown jewel.

According to the report, Fulham have joined Palace in the race for Andre Schurrle this summer, with Borussia Dortmund willing to offload the former Chelsea ace before the window slams shut.

The links with a player of Schurrle’s prestige are bound to excite the Palace supporters ahead of the new season, but with interest intensifying for the 27-year-old they may be forced to turn their attention towards an alternative target if they fail in their pursuit.

And the same report claims that Palace already have an alternative lined up in the shape of West Ham United’s Michail Antonio, although they will have to pay £25 million to secure his services – a ridiculous fee even in the current economic climate.

First and foremost, the Palace hierarchy need to consider that their transfer activity will not only shape their success next season, but also their chances of convincing Zaha to remain at the club.

Signing a player of Schurrle’s reputation and rich experience in European football would represent a statement of intent from the club for the future, whereas Antonio’s arrival would merely represent a sideways step at best.

Antonio’s struggle with a handful of injury problems limited him to just 16 Premier League starts for West Ham last season and 5 appearances from the bench, and he only managed to score 3 goals and provide 1 assists from those appearances.

Sure, Antonio provides much more for the team than just goals and assists: versatility and an exemplary work-rate are two of his most distinctive qualities, but the Eagles will need far more than that if they wish to survive next season.

What Palace really need is a marque signing, such as Schurrle, who is capable of injecting a huge sense of optimism into the club ahead of the new season whilst simultaneously convincing Zaha that his career would best be served by staying at Selhurst Park.

At £25 million Antonio is grossly overpriced, so Palace must ensure that they don’t complete a panic buy from their Premier League rival and instead turn their attention towards an exciting talent who possesses the ability to make a genuine difference next season.

Possible £800,000 windfall could help Rangers in their pursuit of Jake Cooper

According to a recent report from The Daily Record, Rangers could be set for an £800,000 windfall were Martyn Waghorn to make the move to Derby County this summer. The striker spent two years at Ibrox between 2015 and 2017 and in that time scored 44 goals in 78 appearances for the Gers, 28 of which coming in their promotion-winning campaign in the Scottish Championship.

Yet the 28-year-old left for Ipswich Town last summer and looks set to move on again this time round by signing for Frank Lampard’s Derby, and given the ten per cent sell-on clause Rangers inserted into his contract, the £8 million move for Waghorn looks set to benefit Steven Gerrard’s side, who in turn should use that money to help fund a move for Jake Cooper.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 28-year-old Waghorn did a reasonably good job when north of the border with the Light Blues in playing a key part in helping get them back into the Scottish Premiership, bagging 20 goals in just 25 league games in the second tier.

And while he didn’t quite have the same impact the season after, his tally of 16 goals in 41 appearances was still a decent return, which is why selling him for a paltry £250,000 was something of a surprise to many.

Yet they could be set to benefit to the tune of £800,000 were Waghorn to make an £8 million move to Derby, and with funds somewhat limited at Ibrox, Gerrard must seek to use that to finally land Millwall’s Cooper.

The 23-year-old defender has been repeatedly linked with a move to Rangers this summer after impressing for Neil Harris’ side last term, appearing in 38 of their 46 Championship matches and netting four goals in the process to help the Lions finish eighth in the second tier of English football.

A towering defender who can dominate aerially both in his own box and the opposition’s, it’s easy to see why Gerrard is keen on the former England youth international, especially given the Gers conceded more goals than any other side that finished in the top seven of the Scottish Premiership last season.

Yes, three clean sheets in succession to kick-off his stint at Rangers suggests that Gerrard has already made much progress tightening up the Light Blues backline, but bringing in someone like Cooper, especially given he is young and can continue to improve, will go some way to further solidifying the defensive unit.

However, Rangers have as of yet been unable to get a deal done for the Englishman despite reportedly launching a £3 million bid, yet the possible windfall from Waghorn’s Derby move could well give Gerrard the extra funds needed to convince Millwall of a sale.

As such, with a possible £800,000 on the way from Waghorn’s move to Derby, Rangers must seek to use that windfall to help fund their move for 23-year-old Cooper.

Everton fans react as Klaassen ends nightmare stay

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as Davy Klaassen has finally put an end to his Goodison horror show.

The Toffees have cut their losses with Klaassen this week, as the 25 year-old secured a move to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

Of all the signings Everton made in their massive summer spending spree last summer, the curious case of Klaassen was undoubtedly the most disappointing, as the Dutch international came with a huge reputation.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”271323″ player=”12034″ title=”Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus on Football Manager”]

Starring in Ajax’s run to the Europa League final as the club captain, fans expected the playmaker to be a huge hit on Merseyside, but he just didn’t cut it in the Premier League, barely getting a game under two consecutive managers.

Marco Silva and Marcel Brands have quite a lot of work still do to this summer with sub-par players like Ashley Williams and Cuco Martina still at the club, but getting at least some money back for Klaassen will be a relief.

Loads of fans have been reacting to the £12m move to Bremen, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
