Philippe Clement has been battling to save his job as Rangers manager and now a significant update has emerged regarding his future at Ibrox.

The Gers’ recent Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park was one of the lowest moments in the club’s recent history, further heaping enormous pressure on Clement, with the fanbase increasingly turning on him.

On Sunday, Rangers faced a must-win game away to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, with the manager knowing that only victory would ease any kind of heat on him.

Fortunately for Clement, the Gers battled their way to a 3-1 triumph, with Jamie McCart scoring two own goals for the hosts and Vaclav Cerny also finding the net. In truth, though, the performance wasn’t wholly convincing for large periods, with Hearts creating plenty of chances.

Rangers’ victory means they are back to being 13 points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table, with some stunning form needed to narrow the gap on their rivals. Whether Clement is still in charge at Ibrox come the end of the season remains to be seen, but now a new update has dropped over his future.

Journalist gives update on Clement's Rangers future

Writing in The Daily Record on Monday [via Ibrox News], reliable journalist Andy Newport dropped a six-word verdict on Clement’s job at Rangers.

He also went on to state that Gers supporters certainly aren’t changing their feelings towards the Belgian, though, adding: “The Ibrox faithful have long since made their minds up on the beleaguered Belgian and this (win at Hearts) won’t change anything.”

At this point, it really is hard to see Clement being the long-term solution at Rangers, with the aforementioned loss to Queen’s Park almost doing too much damage to ever truly save him moving forward.

Former Gers striker Kris Boyd has certainly made it clear what he thinks should happen to the manager, questioning the 50-year-old’s assessment of Sunday’s game: “I don’t know, sometimes I think Philippe Clement has watched a different game.

“Hearts caused Rangers all sorts of problems, Yes Rangers have won the game but I look at big clubs in other countries and Celtic in Scotland and they dominate games of football.

“They’ve got better players, they’re spending a lot more money on wages, they dominate games of football and I never see that from Rangers. I never see it. There’s moments when they’re on top and you think maybe they can score a few goals but all of a sudden they revert to what we see far too often from Rangers.”

How Ipswich attackers can help Delap

The best place to start is with Philogene, who finally got his account up and running for his new side away at Old Trafford after bagging a brace in the action-packed 3-2 loss.

Both strikes were somewhat fortuitous, as lax United defending from Dorgu allowed him to bag his side’s opener after four minutes, whilst his second was a cross that somehow trickled in, but the former Aston Villa man wouldn’t care one bit as he announced himself to his new set of supporters.

Away from Philogene, McKenna will also hope Sammie Szmodics can get back to the heights he was reaching before a recent injury setback, having fired home four Premier League strikes when fit.

Moreover, the Ipswich boss will also be wanting more from Omari Hutchinson who has three strikes to shout about himself, who – much like Delap – suffered from a quiet showing at the Theatre of Dreams with zero shots registered alongside zero successful dribbles.

But, if the Tractor Boys could turn back time, they would love to have this former loanee back on their books who has slowly but surely become a more exciting talent than Delap since exiting Portman Road.

Ipswich flop is now a £26m-rated loan star

Ipswich have had their fair share of notable loanees over recent years, with Louie Barry once even calling Suffolk his home before exploding into life at Stockport County.

Troy Parrott also made Ipswich his temporary home back in 2021 but failed to spark into life in his fresh surroundings, having only scored a meagre two strikes from 18 outings donning a Tractor Boys strip, before returning to then-parent employers Tottenham Hotspur.

He wouldn’t be too visibly bruised from this low-scoring stint, however, when leaving Spurs to head over to the Netherlands in 2023, with the initial switch only on a loan basis to Excelsior Rotterdam.

But, off the back of firing home a stunning 17 strikes from 32 games for his loan side, AZ Alkmaar would buy Parrott’s services outright for a fee around the £6.7m mark a year later, with the Eredivisie sharpshooter at the peak of his game still leading the line for Maarten Martens’ men.

Indeed, even when looking at his league numbers in isolation, the “rejuvenated” attacker – as he has been labelled by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – trumps Delap’s Premier League numbers by two, with a further five strikes coming his way in other competitions.

It’s a far cry from the days where Parrott looked goal-shy in Suffolk, with Alkmaar just glad that they gambled on the Dublin-born striker – who is now valued at as high as £26m, according to CIES Football Observatory – to come good at the expense of other teams.

Back in England, Delap will just pray he gets back amongst the goals soon after drawing blanks at United, with Parrott turning into an arguably bigger talent than his counterpart on foreign shores.

وتلاقى الفريقان في مباراة نهائي كأس مصر، حيث فاز الزمالك بركلات الترجيح بعد انتهاء الوقت الأصلي والأشواط الإضافية بالتعادل الإيجابي بهدف لمثله، ونفذ شيكابالا ركلة الترجيح التي منحت الفوز لـ الزمالك.

وقال شيكابالا، في تصريحه عبر برنامج “زملكاوي” على قناة “الزمالك”: “ألف مبروك لجمهور الزمالك العظيم، بطولة كأس مصر الجمهور يستحقها وكنا نريد إنهاء الموسم ببطولة أمام فريق كبير، وأقدم لهم التهئنة على تتويجهم ببطولة إفريقيا”.
