The team's inconsistent start to the season is evidenced by New York City's 2023 record of two wins, two draws, and two losses.

The 2021 MLS Cup champions defeated Inter Miami and DC United after taking one point from their first two games, but since then, they have only been able to collect one point out of a potential six.

It is worth pointing out that New York City boasts a 100% record on home soil this season, so they will be hopeful of notching a third successive victory at Yankee Stadium.

Atlanta United has only lost one of its six games this season, winning four and drawing one, keeping it within one point of FC Cincinnati at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The Five Stripes began their season with a run of three victories in their first four games, including a stunning 5-1 victory over the Portland Timbers after a 3-0 victory at Charlotte FC. However, Gonzalo Pineda's team was brought crashing back down to Earth as they were beaten 6-1 by the Columbus Crew in Ohio.

GOAL brings you everything you need to know about where to watch the game on TV and stream live online.

Should’ve taken the red card! Harry Maguire in Man Utd ban admission after opting against chopping down flying Fulham winger Adama Traore

Harry Maguire has admitted that he probably should have taken a red card and subsequent ban at the end of Manchester United’s defeat to Fulham.

Red Devils suffered dramatic defeatDefender could have stopped late attackWas already on a yellow card at the timeWHAT HAPPENED?

The England international defender collected a caution against the Cottagers after catching Sasa Lukic with a high challenge, which could have seen him sent off on a different day, and found himself walking a disciplinary tightrope from that point.

He opted against chopping down flying Fulham winger Adama Traore deep into stoppage-time, after being caught out of position, and could only watch on helplessly as Alex Iwobi was teed up for a dramatic winner at Old Trafford.

WHAT MAGUIRE SAID

Maguire concedes that he could have taken one for the team and served a suspension knowing that United could have had another point on the board. He has said: “I was on a booking myself. In hindsight, maybe I should have just brought him down, but then you miss next week. It's easy to say now. We can say we should have been more cautious, we were far too naive, we can look back and assess it in terms of areas we can improve on, but ultimately over 90 minutes, we didn't do enough to win the game. I thought the reaction to going behind was really good. All the boys pushing, fighting, doing everything they can to get back into the game. We thoroughly deserved the equaliser. Then we went on and we pushed. We had all the pressure, all the momentum and the belief was there that we were going to go on and win the game. In the end, we’ve probably just thrown one too many bodies forward, left the middle of the pitch open and they’ve punished us with a clinical counter-attack.”

Grobbelaar, Nicol give Auckland win

A round-up of the Georgie Pie Super Smash matches played on November 27, 2014

ESPNcricinfo staff27-Nov-2014Auckland moved into third position on the points table with a five-wicket win over Canterbury in Christchurch. Donovan Grobbelaar’s four wickets restricted Canterbury to 118 after they chose to bat. Auckland lost wickets regularly in the chase but captain Rob Nicol steered them with an unbeaten 52 and Brad Cachopa hit fours off the two balls he faced to haul his side home with two deliveries remaining.Ronnie Hira made 53 off 39 for Canterbury at the top of the order but the next highest contribution was Aiden Blizzard’s 17. The rest managed single-digit scores. Grobbelaar had career-best figures of 3.1-0-10-4 while Tarun Nethula picked up two wickets.Hamish Bennett struck in successive overs at the start of the chase but Nicol kept the innings moving with his 52 off 54. Grobbelaar hit a six towards the finish before Cachopa’s blows sealed it for Auckland.

New Zealand not risking burnout – Taylor

New Zealand’s heavy schedule before the World Cup is no more taxing than that of several other teams, Ross Taylor has said

Andrew Fidel Fernando14-Jan-2015New Zealand’s heavy schedule before the World Cup is no more taxing than that of several other teams, Ross Taylor has said, though some experts had warned the team was risking burnout.New Zealand play six more ODIs against Sri Lanka, then play two matches against Pakistan, ahead of two practice matches immediately prior to the World Cup. In all, the team is set to play 10 more one-day games before the World Cup curtain-raiser, and it is the crammed schedule that Martin Crowe has outlined as a concern, as he assesses New Zealand’s chances in the tournament. Many top players, including Taylor, have effectively been playing without a substantial break since late October, beginning with the home ODI series against South Africa. They have also since been on a full tour of the UAE, and have just finished a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.”It is a busy schedule, but every other nation is pretty busy as well,” Taylor said. “A lot of nations will be playing that amount of games if not more.”New Zealand have already begun to rotate their players in the approach to the World Cup. Tim Southee is with the team, but was given the first two matches off, while Taylor was also rested for the ODI in Christchurch. Taylor suggested players will be moving in and out of the XI in the weeks ahead.”Mike Hesson, Brendon McCullum and co. were wanting to rest players at different times to deal with that. I like playing. Any more than a week or so off, you just start getting a little bit rusty. I think the bowlers will be rotated the whole time and will be fresh.”Taylor said New Zealand had some way to go before they were World Cup-ready, but felt the necessary improvements needed only to come incrementally. One area of immediate concern is the top-order batting, which collapsed to 101 for 5 in the first ODI, leaving Corey Anderson and the lower-middle order with the responsibility of knocking off most of the 118 runs still required for victory.”We see our power as one of our strengths, but we need to keep wickets in hand so the power-hitters can come in and play their shots,” Taylor said. “It was good for Corey to play a bit more of a mature innings and get the team out of a sticky situation. But looking forward to the World Cup, if we can leave them to do their power hitting, then whether we’re chasing a score, or setting one, we can probably have a bit more of a dip than we did in Christchurch.”Hesson and Brendon have said that we know the style of play we want to play, so it’s just fine-tuning that more than playing with a different technique. We know how we want to play on New Zealand wickets, and what’s been successful over the last little while. If we can keep to that blueprint, the team will be confident and we’ll be able to put in some good performances as well.”

Third ODI abandoned because of cyclone

The third ODI between India and West Indies on October 14 in Visakhapatnam has already been abandoned because of a cyclone on the country’s east coast

Amol Karhadkar12-Oct-2014The third ODI between India and West Indies on October 14 in Visakhapatnam has already been abandoned because of a cyclone on the country’s east coast. The game will not be rescheduled and the series is now a four-match contest. The Indian Meteorological Department had issued warnings about Cyclone Hudhud at least three days in advance, but the BCCI decided against moving the game out of Visakhapatnam, a port city where the cyclone made landfall on Sunday. A BCCI source said it would have been logistically difficult to move the match to another venue in two days time. With flight services to and from Visakhapatnam suspended, both teams remained in Delhi, where they had played the second ODI on October 11. It is understood the managements of both teams have been advised to be prepared to travel to Dharamsala for the fourth ODI. BCCI joint secretary Anurag Thakur, who is also the president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, the governing body of the Dharamsala stadium, said it was yet to be decided whether the teams will travel to Dharamsala on Tuesday or Wednesday.”Due to extreme weather conditions, the BCCI has had to cancel the [third] ODI. It is disappointing but we cannot overcome natural calamities,” Thakur told ESPNcricinfo. “Even though the host association was hopeful of staging the match if weather cleared, the BCCI didn’t want to take any risk.”This is the second time in the last five years that a cyclone has washed out an ODI in India. The seventh match of Australia’s tour in 2009-10, to be held in Mumbai, was abandoned because of Cyclone Phyan off India’s west coast. The series is level 1-1 after India won the second ODI against West Indies in Delhi.

'The most beautiful football!' – Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak reveals why Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar's link up at Barcelona was so good

Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar starred for the Blaugrana from 2014-2015, winning the treble in the 2014-15 season and establishing themselves as one of the best attacking trios in Europe. And Oblak conceded that Barca side was the most difficult to play against.

In a press conference before Atleti's La Liga clash with Barca this Sunday, Oblak spoke candidly about his toughest Catalunyan opponents: "But I think the Barca that played the most beautiful football was the Barca from 2015 or 2016. Well it doesn’t mean they weren’t performing very well in other seasons of course, but the strongest Barca since I arrived here in La Liga was in the first three years or so when I started to play at Atletico Madrid."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Oblak has been the first choice keeper for Atleti since 2014, winning the La Liga goalkeeper of the year three times, and winning the league in 2020-21 season.

Man City player ratings vs Man Utd: Erling Haaland takes the headlines – but brilliant Bernardo Silva dominates derby-day

Pep Guardiola's side ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford on Sunday as two goals and an assist from their Norwegian goal machine sealed the points

Manchester City put in a dominant derby-day performance as Erling Haaland led the way with a brace and Phil Foden wrapped up a 3-0 victory over Manchester United. The star of the show, however, was Bernardo Silva.

The Portugal international was totally illusive throughout the afternoon, leading United a merry dance on his way to providing his fifth assist against the Red Devils of his career – the most of any player since 2017.

That assist came for Haaland's second as Bernardo's cross was headed in at the back post by the Norwegian striker. He had earlier opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Rasmus Hojlund was adjudged to have pulled down Rodri while defending a free-kick.

In truth, Haaland could have had three more goals if not for an impressive performance from United goalkeeper Andre Onana, but he could do nothing to stop Foden from rounding out the scoring from close range.

GOAL rates Man City's players from Old Trafford…

Getty ImagesGoalkeeper & Defence

Ederson (7/10):

Superb save kept McTominay from equalising late in the first half. Distributed brilliantly, as always.

Kyle Walker (6/10):

Dealt well with Rashford and wasn't shy of a physical battle.

John Stones (8/10):

Spent as much time in midfield as defence, but most important action came when tracking down Hojlund as it looked like the United striker was clean through. Calmness personified both in and out of possession.

Ruben Dias (6/10):

Caught out by poor passes from team-mates at times but largely led by example.

Josko Gvardiol (7/10):

Almost had a couple of costly lapses in possession early on but recovered and got stronger as the game went on. Ensured Fernandes was basically a non-factor.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesMidfield

Rodri (8/10):

Barely misplaced a pass as he kept City ticking over in midfield. Won the penalty with a late run into the box.

Bernardo Silva (9/10):

United tried to man-mark him but could barely get close to the magic midfielder. Constantly on the move and offering himself for team-mates, he capped a superb showing with the cross for Haaland's second. Keeping him was the best piece of business City pulled off during the summer.

Getty ImagesAttack

Phil Foden (7/10):

Plenty of good but also some moments where he made the wrong decision or played a disappointing pass. Won't care after netting the third from close range.

Julian Alvarez (6/10):

One of his quieter games, but that was in part due to Bernardo taking over. Went close with a free-kick that Onana tipped over.

Erling Haaland (8/10):

Probably should have had five goals after twice being denied by Onana, but made sure of the points with a well-taken penalty and a buried header. Nigh on unstoppable if he gets the service.

Jack Grealish (8/10):

Enjoyed his best game since returning from injury. Played a key role in Haaland's second and caused Dalot plenty of problems. Twice saw shots pushed away by Onana.

Bates, Devine steer New Zealand to thumping win

Suzie Bates’ swift 60-ball 82 and her 104-run partnership with Sophie Devine for the second wicket set the base for New Zealand Women’s massive 93-run win over Ireland Women in the World T20 match in Mohali

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Mar-2016
ScorecardSuzie Bates’ swift 60-ball 82 and her 104-run partnership with Sophie Devine for the second wicket set the base for New Zealand Women’s massive 93-run win over Ireland Women in the World T20 match in Mohali.New Zealand got off to a blistering start after opting to bat, as opener Rachel Priest struck three fours in the first over before falling to medium-pacer Amy Kenealy in the second over. The wicket brought Bates and Devine together at the crease, and the pair built on the early momentum in their century stand. By the end of the Powerplay, New Zealand were 48 for 1 and except for a couple of quiet overs, the pair found the boundary with ease. Devine fell in the 15th over to Isobel Joyce, after a 34-ball 47, and Bates then propelled the score past 150. The New Zealand captain struck two successive sixes off Kim Garth in the penultimate over before falling for 82; her knock also included seven fours. She became the fourth player to score more than 2000 runs in women’s T20I cricket and is second on the list of highest run-getters with 2063 runs, ahead of Sarah Taylor and Stafanie Taylor.Ireland’s chase simply failed to get off the blocks. They lost two wickets within the first four overs for a score of 16 and by the tenth over had reached only 34 for 3. The required run rate was already more than 14 by that stage and it was only Joyce who showed some resistance with a 33-ball 28, the top score in an Ireland innings that eventually petered out to 84 for 5. Offspinner Leigh Kasperek had economical returns of 1-10 in her four overs while legspinner Erin Bermingham took 2 for 17.

Younis happy to draw level with Bradman

Younis Khan said that the Bangladesh decision to field was a good call as the pitch had some early help for the bowlers, but then it flattened out to aid strokemakers

Umar Farooq in Dhaka06-May-2015In the Khulna Test, Younis Khan had to wait for 71.5 overs for his turn to bat, but in Dhaka he had to come out in the 23rd over after Pakistan lost both openers for 58. However, Younis’ 148 that came in a little over three hours drove Pakistan into a position of advantage by the end of the first day. It was Younis’ 29th hundred, the same as Don Bradman.”It’s always good to stand equal with the likes of Bradman,” Younis said. “I am happy that I am still going on and scoring hundreds. If I was able go back and start my career again I would want to score hundreds at the average of Bradman and it could have been more satisfying for me.”Along with Azhar Ali, Younis put up a partnership of 250 runs for the third wicket. Both had looked uncomfortable early on and played out the first hour watchfully before finding fluency. Younis strike rate was brisk as he completed his half-century in 72 balls, and reached the hundred-mark in 142 balls. Frequently using the sweep, Younis scored 100 of his runs on the leg side.”I always insisted on building partnership and players like Azhar are the future of Pakistan cricket,” Younis said. “We chat a lot in the middle, rotate strike and allow each other to establish and with bigger partnership, the chances of win increase.”Younis said that the Bangladesh decision to field was a good call as the pitch had some early help for the bowlers, but then it flattened out to aid strokemakers.”Pitch was supporting both the bowlers and the batsmen and if you play properly you have a chance to score big,” Younis said. “The outfield was slow and if you bowl with pace and in good areas, there was some help definitely. We saw it worked well for them in the first hour.”The decision to field wasn’t bad. With grass on the pitch, captains want to make use of the moisture and it went well for them. The way they bowled the first few overs, they got Hafeez, who was in a very good nick, but when a partnership started to build for us they lost their way.”But Bangladesh bounced back strongly in the previous Test and it won’t be easy for us going forward. The first session (tomorrow) is crucial again and we got to have enough runs to put them under pressure.”Younis did provide a chance to Bangladesh. On 78, he was caught at short cover off Soumya Sarkar, but the replays showed the bowler had overstepped. After that lucky break, he went on to complete his fifth century in seven Tests. He was on 78 when he scoped it straight at short-cover to be caught but on reviewing the foot no ball by the third umpire, he got a luck lifeline. He was ‘lucky’ to have a chance to covert the inning into yet another hundred as this is his fifth hundred in last seven Test matches.A Younis century usually bodes well for Pakistan: Fourteen of his hundreds have comes in Pakistan wins.”It’s always good to have a chance,” Younis said with a smile. “I was in mood to score big and when you are at 70-odd runs it great to have a chance like that to convert the score into a century. It worked for me and I grabbed it.”
